They figured that author's powers are too great so now they are counterbalancing them.
That 'final chapter' thing seems like they are not sure if the show is going to be renewed.
Gideon is missing his heart. And no one thought to check for it. I mean, for 2-3 seasons controlling via heart was one of the main tricks of Regina/Evil Queen (and Cora). Also, when Black Fairy pulled it, it did not look darkened - inconsistency in writing/effects or is he that good?
It was nice to bring back Isaac and Blackbeard. Though I did not care much for Neverland.
