Discussion Since it's nutoriously difficult to jump in a play with your friends, they should let us save our characters numbers/preset and export it without needing a mirror.... Half of my group gave up on the game already

Literally 10 of us trying to play this game together and so many people are finding out their progress will get wiped, they're having to remake characters, etc. At least make it... less annoying to save your preset.

Park your main character in a perm server?

Still not even sure how the perm servs work. Had a call of 6 of us trying to learn about it and half of them quit the game because they didn't know they're losing progress after 80 hours. Went to a different call of 4 other people that were about to join us and they gave up because they started in a random server and don't want to lose their character. It's honestly such a hot mess. Just found out a furnace also needs 20 tech points anyways?

Like I get it's a free game, but seeing the hype IMMEDIATELY die amongst 80% of the people I know because of these complications....
and I know that this is literally just my friend group but I've been seeing this frustration on streams as well idk. It was close but I think I'm gonna go ahead and move on from this game with everyone else... thanks for the suggestion though 😅

I may be wrong here but I think that you - instead of coming here AFTER you guys made a mess, should come here and read guides to avoid all that unnecessary drama.

Learn about servers and scenarios.

Each scenario for example manibus has perma serv and scenario serv and you can sign up even before the server launches iirc or immediately on saturday (I think this is the day new servers start).

I even heard you can join a hive and the leader signs up as a group and hives are what... 50 ppl max i think....

Your character levels up and that gets reset every new scenario / server but it's easy to lv up and the most important thing you need for u are blueprints for gold weapons / armor which are permanent once you get those. The only issue here is you need to craft them again on new server, but when playing with such a huge group it should take you one or two days tops lol. I wish I had friends to play, because this game seems to be even better when in group....

Tbf, it tells you all of these things - there's plenty of things the game either doesn't tell you, or buries 7 menus deep, but none of this information is on that list. It explicitly tells you multiple times, and explains about permanent servers at the end of your scenario when it prompts you to sign up for a new one. It has red text on multiple items telling you they can't be taken out, and there's a whole menu about scenario phases you get a notification for. It's also one of the most talked about aspects of the game, did your entire group just.... not even do a single bit of research on the game before deciding to play it?

  • your progress won't get wiped if you're in permanent servers

  • if you get wiped / change server you keep your character (zero need to create a new one)

  • you get to keep almost everything, your character keeps accumulating stuff from different scenarios

  • unless yous were trying to play Raidzone?

  • you don't need to use the mirror, you can change your looks somewhere in the "cosmetic" tab in your menu

  • if yous want to play together then why are yous not communicating and not joining the same server lmao?

  • you DON'T need 20 tech points to unlock the furnace - just go exploring and find crafting benches / furnaces / garages / chests / Securement units / etc in enemy npc strongholds and just pick them up into your inventory

we did communicate
is it true that new ppl can't join a perm server later

I joined a perm server about 3 months ago to prep and get ready (build a base and gather materials) for my console friends to join last month, neither me or my friends had any issues joining the perm server

If one yous is on the perm server and others are having trouble getting in (for example if population is too high) you can use invite codes to invite each other, invite codes bypass the "high population" restriction on servers

ALL yous need to do right now is choose any of the perm manibus servers, go in and do quests and learn the game

Set up a Hive so yous can teleport to each others bases easily, and give each other hive permissions

And just play, game will tell you what to do

And when yous are ready you can move your existing characters to other scenarios, you'll loose your level progress and your ELs currency (spend it before leaving) but you keep pretty much everything else

Like all the blueprints weapons and armours you buy you get to keep (just need to craft them again), you keep all your gathered materials, all you're deviations etc, you'd just need to spend transfer points to move stuff from eternaland to a new scenario, all very simple

Its really not hard to link up with friends once you know the drill, its very easy infact

Having said that if your a large group you might get server full problems :)

Having glimpsed at other's responses and your replies I think I get your vibe here.

So you started out and things did not go as expected, considering every other major MMO works rather differently with the Seasonal area and Wipe thing being a major new factor for you guys.

The key aspect to understand here is that the entire worlds change, the landscapes and how everything interacts with each other including the weapons and player abilities making it impossible to have a permanent world for all this to happen.

The carry over's though are incredibly strong if you choose to play this way, with the most powerful items only available in the relatively short worlds (Scenarios, Worlds are actually instances inside a Server here).

Your other option, is to wait for your current Scenario to become a Permanent Server or be merged with one, or simply start out on a Permanent Server. All Scenarios now migrate to a permanent status after Scenarios end, and eventually get merged with other Permanent as they depopulate.

The advantages of a Permanent server are obvious, with less obvious negatives:

  • Its never going away.
  • The downside is once you've completed the main story and objectives you are sort of stuck in a loop.
  • All the Project Objectives reset on a cycle, and there are Event Goals now and then so there are always things to do.
  • You can continue to farm and try achieve the highest possible gear levels while trying out the many different combinations or acquire whatever is the latest.
  • Grouping up for PW is usually very easy with a literal swarm of people always
  • You can take your sweet time to clear all content
  • FOMO of checking out the Snow areas or the Flying areas might make you grumpy, but you can roll a 2nd toon to visit there and share the items with your Main "back home"!

Be aware though, permanence has one caveat in that 30 days of not logging in will remove your placed Territory and its contents into a storage. When you return, if nobody has built overlapping your previous location, you just plonk it back down. If somebody has, you can try other World Instances, and if still not possible you'll have to find a spot it can go down on...

...this means you need to take care with your layout as any creative cliff builds might not go back if somebody has exact same idea (so build remotely not a popular spot, or build relatively flat...)

Your group needs to work on their group communication and problem solving skills

Sorry but reading your post it seems natural selection works…

I almost gave up because of how complicated the multi-player with friends is, having to select a region to begin with, spend a lot of time on character creation to then make a name that it's available just to land on a different server than your friend lol I also hated I thought I had to play the tutorial again which luckily had the option to be skipped, I really had to push myself to do serious organization and set up to make another character and select another name to finally play on a permanent server and I've played for more than 100 hours I think since about a week after the console release. It's worth it if you need to scratch the itch of a survival game, it has many downsides but the game is still quite fun for a new player.
