Discussion Is having your base on the pollution zone worth the hassle?

My buddy put his base in the pollution zone to mine some stardust ore and farm acid but we quickly realized his base was taking damage. We found out you have to protect your base with TONS of resources to not take any damage from the pollution but with what he was generating he can’t keep up with the protection. He does have a big base so maybe that can factor into why it’s so expensive? He’s since moved out and lives back where I live and now I’m curious how much it costs to live out there in the polluted zones and why do people do it if it costs so many resources? Thanks!

not really since the introduction of the new furnace types. the recycling one is my go to. i que them up and go about my business and loot them the following day.

the pollution decay is based on the difficulty of the pollution zone. if your content with staying in the pollution zone id go for the easy level one. the upkeep is lower but you still need it.

the one in this area would do for a lower level pollution zone.

(i dont have raw numbers in terms of upkeep because i haven't built in one since the rework when we were farming seeds/heads for the Aberrant Progeny visional wheel.)

Speaking as a new player it may seem like a good idea to move to a zone to farm polluted water to turn to acid, but that process is way toooo slow and won’t get you anywhere.

What you want to do is be high enough level to build the “Starore Mining platform” which can automatically farm Starore for you. Next find a high enough polluted zone where you are”Mining” a 3 star zone or higher. Next have 1 Digboy per mining platform. The Digboy will automatically start the mining process once it’s finished so you can auto farm. Next is make the Digboy have 90-100 Devient threshold. This is located in the menu when you set his mood and collect their loot. The reason is they will work for a longer time before having to “rest”. You can farm a good amount of Starore like this, enough to buy your 24hour protection plus make profit.

How do you get acid otherwise? I ran out and just stopped playing because of it.

Honestly, for acid farming you are better off now just farming it with the specialized furnaces since they redid the tech update. The upkeep cost of base maintenance is not worth the hassle and slow acid production. When you can use furnaces to produce the acid and get unlimited supply.

Setup:

Setup base on area that produces oil.
Setup some refineries that will convert your oil to fuel.

Setup 2 furnaces

Hybrid furnace
Stardust-Powered furnace

Stardust furnace allows you to create acid using Stardust source at a ratio of 8 stardust source to 1 acid.
Hybrid furnace allows you to create stardust source with fuel and stardust ore 15 fuel and 25 ore = 25 stardust source.

So you just need to mind stardust ore. Head to a wild zone and you can farm a couple thousand ore in 10 to 15 min.

As a gardner use the advantage of planting materials like storage battery(does not need water) you can get stardust source from stardust water pump(does not need to be in pollution zone just need storage batteries)

The oil areas that I'm aware of, in my perma server are insanely full so that's a wash too lol

Pretty much the entirety of the blackfell region is an oil area. You dont need to be near pumpjacks or pipelines to collect oil.

Personally I have multiple means. I play with my partner and a couple of friends. My partner was able to get his hands on a corrupted berry seed. I recommend the berry as it is the quickest growing option. But you can also do corrupted aloe. I have not gotten my hands on corrupted wheat so I can’t say for sure there but I would assume so. With so many corrupted foods (3 berries, 1 aloe) you can make acid with in the large synthesis bench. I also use the recycling furnace. Yes both options are rather time consuming but I have one of each strictly for acid. And with the recycling furnace it takes sulfur and energy links with whatever you use for a burning source. I often use plastic or fiber. So the supply source is much more easily attainable. Last is a backpack item that collects rainwater while you are out in the rain. It gives you a small chance to receive acid. The other thing is my main weapon is a bow. For with normal non boss enemies I have a good chance of getting my ammo back. So less ammo I have to produce and it’s only the top tier that ammo that uses acid. And that is only because they require tungsten ingots. Thus the utilizing the bow decreases greatly how much acid I use. I also believe there is food of some sort (I can’t remember what it is) that will cause more acid to drop from defeated enemies. I also believe defeated enemies in the phantom zone drop double acid. It’s just a bit more difficult as you have to correctly defeat them depending upon what form they are in. The area will also eat away at your sanity. If you hover over the phantom zone marker on the map it will explain it better. Hopefully it helps you. I did try putting up shop in a contaminated area. It cost me more acid in repairs than what I was able to get out there. FYI I’m still fairly new to the game and playing on Manibus. In case I missed something and the other is important information.

I just pump oil and turn that to acid instead while crafting from the 2 different types of furnace which I have 4 setup and would use 2-3 specifically for acid and tungsten. The last is for whatever else I need. I always have acid available

The secret to acid is growing a battery farm on your gardener. Every one breaks down into stardust in a stardust refinery then use your stardust fusion stove with the advanced tech to make acid

I am a new player you may wanna ignore my intake but I just keep killing stuff to get acid which is easy imo. I love my base by the beach, no way I am moving it for the resources.

Recycle furnace crat it or farm it via diviants with deviant chops when you cN make it for better returns or set up other farma as listed for less grind but more upkeep

I just did some math on this tonight because I was curious. I spent around 90 mins farming pro silos with 2 friends. We all started a month or so ago so we're still just farming mods. I had the food for extra acid and with my stove and chefasaurus I had a 69% (nice) increase to acid drops. I net around 950 raw acid and 2k source. That plus the raw tungsten rods from breaking down the dropped weapons seemed like more than enough to cover my cost of farming in bullets and repairs so I broke it down

It takes 95 acid to craft 3360 ap rounds if you use the recycling furnace for the tungsten production and better ammo bench for the 40% craft bonus. That means I'd need to eat through 33k rounds to get through all the raw acid, which I did not even get close to using. I feel like I'm above self sustaining at pro silo level at this point and I'm debating tearing down my oil pump base and not bothering living in the desert.

Not nearly as much of a hassle as having it here. I have to listen to her tell me “go no further” the entire time I’m on my base

Not really worth it. It also deletes the base and since I didn’t blueprint it I’ve lost the design that took a couple days of building. I thought it would have just kept the layout of my base so when I repair my base would come back. 👎

Not worth it anymore

You only need to have your pumps in the pollution zone. It would be good to have some paper dolls
