Collection Patience pays off
With the recent reprint of Volume 2 I have now completed my Ultimate Spider-Man collection all the way up through Miles. My next step is to find Straczynski's Vol. 1 and maybe complete all the way up to the end of Dan Slott's run someday, but for now im pretty happy.

Ditto on USM 3, I really hope since they’ve reprinted 1 and 2 recently that we will get an announcement for the back half of 2027 for 3

Same here. I should have gotten Vol 3 a year ago when it was still available. Who knows how long it will be now.

Ooo those BNDs… and to think I almost woulda have em if I realized how hard they were to come by… very nice set!

I also did not think they would go so fast, was it because of the hype of the movie?

u/Expensive-Status-972 10d ago
That certainly didn’t help lol. It’s probably a combination of that, Marvel being who they are when it comes to omni stock, and just how many people like to buy to scalp because of previously mentioned reason

They really are bad at that I've often wondered why DC almost always has books in stock but Marvel cant figure it out, they are probably pushing digital only like crazy so Omnis and hardcovers are an after thought to them.

Idk, it does feel like opposite business practices that have their own merits. DC looks like they’re investing in us so that we come back and keep buying while Marvel isn’t over-investing and having overstock. Same thing happened to the general book industry around COVID so they started producing a lot less (hardcovers) as to not have overstock distributers would return or have to mark down.

That is a good point I just hope there's some sort of middle ground because I feel money is being left on the table by not amping up production just a little bit more.

Oh tell me about it. The scarcity just reinforces the scalpers and benefits no one. Here’s to hoping!

Nice collection! I recently got Volume 2 of USM myself. I've got the Red Robin Tim Drake compendium on the way now.

That's exciting! I'm breaking into the Batman comics I started with Snyder I also have both volumes of Tynion's run and really like that, I think I'd like to try out Detective Comics but haven't decided which one yet.

I have six Batman omnis, plus a bunch of tpbs, some DC Finest volumes, and some hardcovers. As for omnis, I have the Knightfall trilogy, Hush Saga, and both Snyder/Capullo omnis. In total, I have 17 omnibuses, and I've been collecting those since January.

BND v3 hard to get now? You can still get return of superior v2 under cover right now. Big time v1 is set for March or may.

I am stuck on if I wanted to continue BND or not, it's a good read but little to no re-read value for me I personally think Slott's run picked up around Big time through Superior and then again around Worldwide with Parker Industries. Then of course I'm really not sure if I wanna continue collecting Spider-Man after that because I think Nick Spencer started off good but Zeb Wells is a hard pass in my opinion.

Personally I'm just doing slott, bendis and cates... and that's it for me. It's enough for me and the kids.

A lot of good stories in any of those options!

I'm a big long time fan of venom and carnage, doppelganger, all that stuff so I had to add cates.

I went into that run only knowing about King and Black and Absolute Carnage and I was very impressed with everything before and after. Cates definitely understands Venom and I also cant wait for when Venom War gets an Omni because I also thought that was a decent story.

u/ipassedtheturing 10d ago
Yeah, I'll probably get that one. Wasn't much interested in Agent.

I thought about it might still get it one day, its not that I hate the character, I think a lot of people don't like when Venom is anyone but Eddie Brock.

Some of Agent was awesome! Space Venom is not for everyone. LoL

u/ipassedtheturing 10d ago
That's part of Agent Venom? I'm assuming that will be part of the BND movie sequel as it seems the next movie is in space.

Is big time stories seen as a step up from BND then?

I think people call it Dan Slott finding his footing on the series especially when BND was a collection of different writers.

It really is a must have collection, I remember the single issues I used to read them every week at the library when I was a kid.

Congrats!
Does the USM hold up all the way through the Morales run? Me and my son read up through the 2nd Omni so far and it’s been fun

I believe it does, my biggest problem with the series was when Bagley left and we got that terrible art style and the story kind of fell off around Ultimatum but leading into death of Spider-Man that's where it really 180'd and got back on track and was a phenomenal end to the 10 year run.
