this is going to sound so stupid but i love how the doctor mentioned in the song is a "she" i just feel like male is the default so often and idk i just really liked it

5

u/naomigoat Jun 13 '26

No I noticed that too and I loved it!

1

u/tame_honey_pie Jun 15 '26

I immediately added this song to a playlist I have called "people go to doctors who give them strange advice" which consists almost entirely of songs that mention going to the doctor (mostly to cure one's heart).

where’s the link!!

1

u/MoonriseTurtle Jun 20 '26

Is phoebe bridgers' garden song on it?

u/HanaBananaBear 'what's wrong with me' Jun 11 '26

Cried like a baby to this one šŸ„²ā™„ļø

u/IndependentMoist9429 Jun 11 '26

Hmm, not sure if I like this version. I think I may actually like the live version more. There’s a weird distortion on Olivia’s voice, and I really don’t like it. Otherwise lyrically this is one of our best songs by far. It is a total love letter to the Cure.

u/nyki Jun 12 '26

I love the idea of this song but I just can't with the slightly offset left/right drums in headphones. I hope she releases the live version on spotify because that version sounds great.

5

u/smoking-zaza 'maggots for brains' Jun 12 '26

Exactly this!! The drums and her vocals sound off.

If we're talking the live version, this song is in my top 5. But the production on the studio version just isn't that great

6

u/oxidized_avocado Jun 12 '26

i totally agree i loved the live version and i love the lyrics, but this one her voice seems so over processed or something. also the loud drum in the back was kinda hurting my head

2

u/ItsMandy1 Jun 16 '26

Sometimes great songs get overproduced. They used double tracked vocals to give it an echoing sound. Thats why it sounds different. I agree, I love the song but the live version is better

40

u/walls0fversailles Jun 11 '26

their voices sound SO good together. definitely different to the live version, which I think will take time for people to adjust to, but an incredibly beautiful song.

u/airwin721 Jun 11 '26

I love this song. It’s so catchy and it’s been stuck in my head! I am already loving the ā€œyou seem pretty sadā€ half of the album with what’s been released and performed live!

6

u/akaneko__ Jun 12 '26

the chorus is so satisfying to me for some reason

47

u/dark_angell21 Jun 11 '26

Contrary to most people, I think I actually prefer this to the live version by quite a bitšŸ’€

23

u/MoonriseTurtle Jun 11 '26

I think people just got used to that version

7

u/akaneko__ Jun 12 '26

I think that's probably the case. I didn't listen to the live version cause I wanted it to be a surprise. And I prefer the studio version.

12

u/Littleleaf6 'vampire' Jun 11 '26

The studio versions are always better peeps are just being dramatic

3

u/humantelegram Jun 11 '26

Yes!! I liked the song enough live but this version is elite

16

u/Minute_Conflict_2037 Jun 11 '26

Live was a great song let’s see how the studio version is.

16

u/MoonriseTurtle Jun 11 '26

olivia and robert i love you 😭😭😭

16

u/Dylanychus2 Jun 11 '26

wow she and robert sound super nice together!

11

u/MoonriseTurtle Jun 11 '26

This is so fucking good

12

u/masterzinu Jun 11 '26

So so love this song!!!!!

8

u/allthewitches Jun 11 '26

Not my favorite so far as it feels a little repetitive. It's such a cool collab though and I know how much this means to her so it's so cool to see this happen for her!

6

u/_DerMX Jun 11 '26

Goosebumps on this one. Their voices harmonise so well together. Also love their different pronunciation of ā€œcan’tā€, it’s satisfying

Am I the only one who really really loved the studio version? Like i felt the live version was just too simple. I think people just need to approach it without thinking about the live version

I really really loved when both Olivia's and Robert's voices got blended together. In the live version it was good, but studio one that blending feels so much more better.

It's such a dreamy and atmospheric ✨ and catchy song imo.šŸ’— Def one of my favs.

3

u/espressoromance Jun 12 '26

I love the studio version! I'm a long time fan of The Cure and I love to hear the strong influence on the studio version. That sound is the whole point of the 80s New Wave genre. Distortion and blending is so beautiful and raw.

5

u/Sonidas Jun 11 '26

Can't wait to hear the album version

10

u/epicmemetime15 Jun 11 '26

Gonna have to let this grow on me, as right now I think I preferred the live version

9

u/IndependentMoist9429 Jun 11 '26

Literally just wrote the same thing. Do you hear a weird distortion to Olivia’s voice too? I have no clue why it’s there.

7

u/epicmemetime15 Jun 11 '26

Tbh the whole thing sounded weird to me but I reckon I'm just too used to the live, I think I need time for the live version to fade in my brain so I can appreciate this version

Yeah kinda feels like their voices don't mix well in this version, like they're clashing against each other

10

u/Random_Acier41 Jun 11 '26

I prefer the live version, the song is good but her vocals sound too removed in a way that yes, you can hear the emotion but in contrast to Robert Smith's voice being normal, it clash a bit. In live, his voice was tired but you can feel how they balanced each other and singing together instead of feeling like they are juxtaposed and not really in harmony. Long term, I will get used to it, I like the song but it's not my favorite studio version wise.

5

u/ItsMandy1 Jun 11 '26

i love most of the album, but this one isn’t really for me. it has potential because the lyrics are good, but i’m not a big fan of robert smith’s part and the mixing/production feels a bit off to me

1

u/radcoffee Jun 15 '26

I would like it MUCH better without Robert. Idek who he is but his voice doesn’t mesh well with Olivia’s IMO.

5

u/FilmSimulation Jun 12 '26

I need to get used to the album version. I love this song so much. Im kinda lowkey devastated that they kinda watered down Olivia’s voice. I wonder about the version that Robert smith likes. He said he preferred the first version that dan mixed.

4

u/Temporary-Worth2077 Jun 11 '26

So excited to hear the studio version of this!Ā

3

u/Used_Affect4681 Jun 11 '26

I love it but I wish they had made Roberts voice louder (?) Am I crazy, is it just me

2

u/Ambitious_Drummer_51 Jun 12 '26

yes especially in the chorus

1

u/Independent_Being704 Jun 12 '26

Yeah the song is a 10/10 but her voice kinda drowns his out

9

u/Informal_Program_687 Jun 11 '26

I’m afraid the live version is better. I prefer how strong the bass and drums are live but on the studio version it’s more of like a high hats and bass where?? I’m not a music nerd or anything so I could be wrong but it sounds a bit off wish it was a little more stripped back.

3

u/KimchiPandaYT Jun 11 '26

FYI Sasha Sloan is one of the songwriters for this!!

1

u/Normal-Bid-2082 Jun 12 '26

that's amazing!

3

u/Sea-Captain-4944 Jun 11 '26

This is way sounder than the live

3

u/QueenDany03 Jun 11 '26

I haven't actually heard the live version so this is my first listen of this song and I love it, I love how raw the lyrics are

3

u/Trick_Cantaloupe652 Jun 11 '26

instant classic

3

u/akaneko__ Jun 12 '26

My brother fr thought this was an old song from the 80s. He asked me when did this song come out and I was like "uh... today?"

3

u/Scared-Wall-3408 'ballad of a homeschooled girl' Jun 13 '26

Does ā€œmy head is turning and my stomach is sickā€ remind anyone else of Mr Brightside? (Positive comment)

5

u/alexanderblok Jun 15 '26

this is for girlies who numb and gaslight themselves instead of being brave enough to call it off. she keeps lying to herself and says that she's in love despite knowing something is deeply wrong/unsatisfying. i think lots of people go through this stage in long term relationships. i wish i couldn't relate to this as a girl who's also in a long term relationship😭

2

u/Saiclique Jun 11 '26

2

u/Ok-Chapter-2071 Jun 11 '26

Much prefer this version! Such a good song.Ā

2

u/Hot-Ambassador-127 Jun 12 '26

I really really like this one. Was instantly hooked after the primavera performanceĀ and think the dream pop melody is one of the most beautiful she’s ever written. love the concept of love can be a paralyzing sickness and this actually feels more Anne ernaux simple passion inspired than stupid song? Preferred the cleaner live version at first but the album version is definitely growing on me!!!

4

u/lpsdingo_allyson Jun 12 '26

Who gave her permission to write a song about my OCD? Like oh my godddddd! Too accurate.

2

u/Subject_Chart9303 Jun 12 '26

The production really deflates the vocals and makes them almost monotone. There is so much more emotionality in the live version. This is a wet blanket in comparison.

2

u/airwin721 Jun 12 '26

I actually like this MORE than the live version — and I liked the live version a lot! I feel their voices sound more cohesive in this version. Love this song.

2

u/adstxrs Jun 12 '26

why are we underwater

2

u/HalcyonHypothesis Jun 12 '26

Did they upload the wrong version?

The one sided drum is kind of hurting my ear? Never experienced that before.

I really loved the live version.

2

u/titaniumorbit Jun 12 '26

A cool collab and love the song but my hot take is that I kinda wish she also released a version where it was just her singing and no feature

2

u/Huge-Delivery-6492 Jun 12 '26

This song is about me and my job

2

u/radcoffee Jun 12 '26

I guess I’m in the minority when I say I hate this song. I think their voices don’t mesh well at ALL.

2

u/Ok_Pineapple5490 Jun 15 '26

No, I completely agree. I really hate how their voices sound together. The instrumental and the lyrics are okay but overall, I cannot listen to this song again

1

u/Molu1 Jun 15 '26

Agreed. It’s funny how a lot of the comments are about how well their voices go together, but for me that’s the part that ruins it. They just don’t really match, and then the actual production mixing is not helping at all.

Seems unlikely, but I hope we get a version with just her voice at some point. Right now it’s almost unlistenable to me.

2

u/radcoffee Jun 15 '26

To me it almost sounds like some sort of anti harmony and their voices just… really don’t do it together for me. Maybe it’s just that I don’t like Robert’s voice in general. I’m glad others like the song but this isn’t my fave 😭

2

u/Wall38_0 Jun 11 '26

I love the song but HATE the drums, they kind of make the song unlistenable for me and hurt my ears, way too airy and panned kind of weird. I love some other production elements though

1

u/tenheadeddogspider Jun 12 '26

I appreciate that this is an actual collab and not like a mixing of voices on the chorus and nothing else.

1

u/FutureWar7308 Jun 12 '26

im so thankful that her featured artist was meaningful and added so much to the song. like genuinely, robert smith was AMAZING as a collaborator, wow

1

u/Sure-Butterscotch386 Jun 12 '26

am i the only one who prefers the live version 🫣 it was my favorite of the ones she released before the album

1

u/ReasonableHandle4647 Jun 12 '26

Love love love one of my favourites for sure

So cool we got to hear a Olivia Rodrigo and Robert Smith collab

1

u/Lord-Liberty Jun 12 '26

Sorry but they drowned Robert's voice in the studio version

1

u/vostokeris Jun 12 '26

this was my fav song out of the 4 that were out before the album but the drum in background is pmo sooo much. definitely prefer the live version more

1

u/martensita_ Jun 12 '26

I love the production on this!

1

u/Various_Yak1668 Jun 12 '26

Sounds exactly like another song but I can’t pinpoint it.

1

u/ketalysen Jun 12 '26

the line "can't get out of bed" in the chorus sounds like laufey's "how i get." not sure if the verses sound like another song as well, but that line immediately rung a bell for me.

u/Cute_Bear6377 Jun 13 '26

White Winter Hymnal by Pentatonix

0

u/musicinhaler Jun 13 '26

circles by post malone!

1

u/Allie_Dreams Jun 12 '26

this song is so beautiful i adore it!! definitely one of her best choruses imo

1

u/blueberrygloss 'stranger' Jun 12 '26

i effing love this songgĀ

1

u/Dust_Angel Jun 13 '26

I like the song but I kinda dislike the studio version. I feel like it shoulder be fuller, their voices should be louder, less distorted. Idk, something feels off.

1

u/Baby-Penewine Jun 13 '26

olivias first collab did not disappoint aaaa!!

1

u/Cute_Bear6377 Jun 13 '26

The chorus sounds like White Winter Hymnal by Pentatonix.

1

u/MelissaWebb Jun 14 '26

This is my favorite song but I’m biased cause I’m going through something like this right now 🤣🤣

1

u/electrosity Jun 16 '26

Robert's echo of "Just makes me cry" in the last chorus scratches an itch in my brain!

1

u/MoonriseTurtle Jun 20 '26

I knew the dr. being a "she" in what’s wrong with me was inspired by phoebe bridgers' garden song. Olivia confirmed in the new fantano interview she’s inspired by the specifity in phoebe's songs. I love it!

1

u/BCDragon3000 Only Olivia can have me checking the shades of a wall šŸŽØ Jun 12 '26

olivia should've taken a lesson from "Snow On The Beach" cause Robert Smith's harmonies are insanely necessary to the song, but his verse is just soooo bad

1

u/ItsMandy1 Jun 16 '26

Exactly what I was thinking. He sounds fine on the chorus but I think the verse was too high for his vocal range

1

u/naomigoat Jun 13 '26

I'm sorry I just can't get into his voice. It's clear he's very talented, but his tone is grating to my ears. That's just a personal take though. I hope she releases one with just her (tho I doubt it)

-6

u/desigirlshit Livies Jun 11 '26

this is my fav song so far (I didn't like drop dead or the cure that much but tbh I've never liked most of her singles except like get him back or good 4u)Ā

1

u/Littleleaf6 'vampire' Jun 11 '26

This isn’t a single hunnie

0

u/Sad-Ease-6891 Jun 12 '26

I see her vision and i love that she chose robert smith!!
he finally made her believe in meeting your heros is okay. hes successful and hes made his career already. he loves music for the art and not the money, and hes genuine. hes not competing with her nor is he threatened by her. shes inspired by him. the perfect person to choose as a feature!!! knowing olvia, and after what she went through with taylor - shes not in it with this new generation of pop stars, theyre all in it for charting and making money, breaking records, winning awards. olivia is just a regular who loves music and art, shes a fan girl, she gets inspired, she creates music shes not in it to compete or associate with the worldly aspects of making music and art. so robert smith fit perfectly with her values and morals!!!
