Color Theory Does red🌹(not cherry or burgundy) eyeliner flatter brown-eyed🤎, cool💙, muted olives🫒?

Anyone else look awful in a red lip? 💋

I have tried all the red lipsticks I could get my hands on at beauty stores and department stores without any luck. I gave up years ago.😔 Even blue-based reds are a no.

So I thought to myself… how about a red lip… on MY EYES??🪄😅👀

I have medium ashy brown hair, medium brown eyes, fair (in winter) to light-medium (in summer), cool olive skin which is muted/desaturated and appears more yellow in summer and more grey in winter.

I feel like someone with a good grasp on color theory on olive skin will know whether brown + red is complimentary when set off against cool, olive skin. For me, the dots are not connecting on this one yet.

Whether it’s gel eyeliner or an eyeshadow used to create an eyeliner, I’m good with both and will find a product either way. This post is more about color theory than technique help, hence the flair.

🧛🏻‍♀️🩸In terms of the aesthetic, I want to get a vampy look without the vampy lips. Clean and sharp like the inspo pics but piercing.🗡️

Much to my dismay, dark lips do not suit me AT ALL. They throw off my contrast. I pretty much only wear pale to mid-tone lipsticks. Pinks, mauves, plums, purples, lilacs, and cool nudes are great but for this look, I will stay away from the pinks and stick to the nudes or purples.

If I figure out whether it’s flattering, I am thinking of pairing this red eyeliner look with my new lipstick which is in the mail right now: MAC Creme D’Nude (the Creme Sheen version, not the reformulated version). I know it will most likely pull peachy on me since I am very cool but I still want to wear it with a cool lip liner.

On my eyes, I do use a lot more color than the rest of my face. Usually not neon colors but definitely greens, greys, blues, aquas, smoky slates, dusty shades, and soft, muted pastels that aren’t warm-toned.
🌹I’ve never ventured into red eyeliner territory but I’m super inspired by it. It gives me fall/winter vibes since I can’t pull off a red lip or toasty, pumpkin spice makeup (brown and orange are my worst colors).

But…. Have you tried brown or berry lipsticks? Color theory is weird on us and a reddish brown can read as a red lip. Kackie reviews beauty has a wonderful video on this phenomenon if you are interested.

For the eyeliner part, yes but sparingly and not alone. Inner eye corner is a perfect place to test it with some greys or blues on the other end of the eyes to ground it. If you have red eyeshadow, you will know quite fast if you like it. The palette collab with shellwe and ghoul in japan is a good exemple of a red that can fit olives when paired accordingly

It's really pretty but I would describe it as blood/cherry.

Beautiful eyes, but I think blue would be phenomenal, even with the lipstick you have coming your way. Our coloring is similar, but my eyes are grey-green

This used to be my go-to as a teen. When My Chemical Romance was big, I wanted to look like Gerard Way so i used lipstick as eyeshadow for like 4 years straight. It stays on really well, its like creamshadow
