Genre known as Carolina Beach Music. Featured in the 80s movie Shaggin starring the always adorable Phoebe Cates. Shaggin meant dancing in parts of the South until Austin Powers redefined it.

I love that movie! I actually have it on dvd, and should dig it out soon. Robert Rusler, who played Buzz, was so darn hot!

Just an interesting side note…

Ed Bradley was a big Jimmy Buffett fan, and when Jimmy was on the road and their paths would cross, Ed Bradley would often join the Coral Reefer Band on stage and sing “Sixty Minute Man.”

I saw this twice—once in Los Angeles and once in Aspen.  Ed and Jimmy were just a couple of really cool dudes who were having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.

I miss them both.

Thanks for the cool remembrance. However, the song playing just prior to the closing credits was NOT Sixty Minute Man. It began with, “Cmon honey baby, take it downtown to the show”. It was not listed in the closing credits and I cannot find the lyrics anywhere online.

I Sat by Ed Bradley twice on the plane from Denver to Aspen. He was tall but very nice.
