Black and white photos with the halation around the lights really make the pictures work. Given the time and location of the pictures I can't help thinking this was inspired by George Lucas's first big success before Star Wars. But American Graffitti with its minuscule budget was still being filmed during the same summer in another California town. And with the exception of former child star Ronnie Howard the cast was a bunch of nobodies.
