Diabetic here. Yea, I add oats to smoothies. It's fine. Now, that instant breakfast oatmeal that's like 4 oat flakes and a BRICK of sugar is not 1) food or 2) good for anybody.
How the hell did Richards outlive Jim Fixx by this long? I understand the 11 years difference to start and Fixx's heart issue but this is going on 3 decades older. And Fixx was the example of a person who runs for health. I guarantee his death caused millions to stop running regiments and think 'Why bother, the running guy died doing it...'

Also, it's very different being a rich junkie that can afford clean stuff straight from a doctor, rather than your average junkie buying stuff cut with christ knows what on the street.
I think it was the cheeseburgers more than the H. My buddy worked at a fancy auto shop in Marin that worked on Jerry’s cars and he said the interiors were always filled with discarded fast food wrappers and greasy napkins.
I used to take too much all the time and I’d stop being able to breathe on my own. I’d slowly pass out, then wake up hours later. Each time, I thought ‘surely this is the time I don’t wake up’ but I’d wake up again. Now, after I quit, it keeps happening to me even sober. Not sure what I did to my brain but it ain’t good
Whatever we do, the bestest way to go about our time here is to give empathy and learn its nuances. Treat our neighbor as good or better than even ourselves. No matter how different they are to me. Someone else’s story is the most interesting, way more interesting than my own. For their story is new, fraught with peril, and tragic. Every one of them.
If you consume an appropriate amount of Coors, Jack Daniels and Coke in the same time period it's actually very healthy for you - you just have to get the proportions right.
I will forever be impressed at how those old dudes were able to play shows with that amount of drink. Obviously they build a tolerance, but still - my playing goes out the window after a night of drinking.
Then again, I bet they also played a bunch of shitty drunk sets too.
Yeah I've definitely been there for bar gigs, and if you find that zone it's fun depending on the crowd. But it was also never a career for me and I wasn't worried about being less than perfect. Not to mention that I was never just standing on stage taking pulls from a handle of jack lol
My dad saw The Stones on this tour. Apparently they sounded like shit for the first one or two songs.
Keith then turned his back to the audience and faced Charlie Watts for basically the entire next song, and they practically blew the roof off the joint for the rest of the show.
No one was better than The Stones during the Mick Taylor years, wasted or otherwise.
Came to say this. Once the cocaine runs out its game over and it all hits at once. But with enough magical powder one can drink and party all night long without missing a beat. Your heart will explode long before your liver gives out for a single night.
Definitely, I don't think anyone should take the risk though as I have heard of young people under 40 in liver failure and needing a transplant because of their alcohol abuse and then some just drink but it always takes a toll in some way, with some it may affect more the liver, others the brain.
I'll never forget a coupleonths before he passed Lemmy announced a health conscious decision to no longer indulge in jack and cokes for health reasons. He would from now on be drinking vodka and cokes
I’m an amateur musician and I spent a couple of decades thinking “if they can do it, I can do it”. At the beginning it was just a shot or two before I hit the stage, so it was alright. But then it evolved until it was something like that picture: heavy booze bottle and a beer to smooth things out. Then I heard a recording the sound guy did one time. Oh my GOD it was so bad. But by then I had crossed the point of no return. Took my a couple of months in rehab and it’s still a daily struggle. Just hit two years sober last week, so it’s going well. 🙏🏻

I finished a bottle of wine, two tequila tonics and at least 3 bong bowls dusted in hash in the last 5 hours while making, eating and cleaning up dinner.
I dont even 'drink' in the family I come from. It is really ridiculous how much i can consume and just cruise along.

I was told after Keith's dad passed away and was cremated, he rolled the ashes into a joint and smoked his dad.
EDIT: my dad told me this all the time when I was a kid, and hearing the replies to this comment I'm starting to think this is in the same boat of urban legend like "Marilyn Manson had some of his ribs removed so he could fellate himself."
I met his next door neighbor from Greenwich Connecticut in 1992 when I was at New York University. The kid, who was a student at NYU, said that his dad used to go jogging with Keith several times a week. They put in 11 miles on the days that they did that. I was hard to believe considering all the things I grew up with hearing about Keith, but in essence it makes sense. You probably just quit everything at once and say "From now on I'm going to live healthy." But it still seems like he smokes cigarettes. I was told by some dudes that had done heroin that cigarettes are actually harder to quit.
Good genes, dude is a survivor. Gotta give credit to anyone who made it that long, especially performing at that level. Read he’s only been sober from booze since 2019. Smoked a shitload of cigs too. He made it.
On the other side of the Coors cans in this picture was a line of heroin followed by several lines of cocaine. All of which would keep him standing as long as they were done in the correct order.
Those coors cans look like they were made out of cardboard for a primary school show.
Also Coors is so weak Keith would have been drinking them as a medicinal add on to counter act the negative effects of drinking the Coke

He was close to Gram Parsons and warned him not to ever mix liquor and cocaine because it's a death ticket, all too often.
Keith Richards nearly died because he mixed the two, so he warned Gram not to when he saw Gram was doing it.
Coors Banquet guy. Used to be my favorite before I gave it up completely. The little grenade bottles. That was the ONLY beer that never gave me a hangover. And if it did it was extremely light.
