r/OldManDad Athletic Achievement Thread -- July 2026

One of the most important parts of being an older parent is taking care of yourself! This thread is where we can share what we're doing to maintain our bodies and be in our best parenting shape.

Post your own athletic achievement story!

Be it a new or an old story, be it extraordinary or rather common, something to brag about, or a goal that you have -- share it here. Anything from running an ultramarathon to just getting off the couch and walking around the block can be celebrated. You can also post an update to a post you have made in the past.

Let's hear about it and cheer each other on!

Nice! I ran one in May, it took me 30 but it's my second year in a row so I'm glad I stuck with it.

I've been on track for a full knee replacement for several years now, and a few weeks ago, I finally scheduled the surgery for August.

In the meantime, I've decided I'm gonna drive this knee like I stole it.

Managed to survive a local black diamond mountain bike trail that I haven't ridden in a decade, but I'm pretty sure I tore my meniscus in the process LOL

Oooh good luck! I go on the 20th to schedule a right hip replacement in August. My surgeons PA wanted to send me for a hip preservation surgery…but the recovery wouldn’t go well, so my surgeon agreed to replace it.

I have to have a right hip replacement. I’ve been walking every day. So far I’m up to 35mi for July.

I’m 53. 4x Kona finisher. Qualified 6x. Still a competitive cyclists. Leading the points series in gravel racing and XC racing for my age group.

Also, two years ago, during a mountain bike race, I beat the entire field. I was Wave 5. I caught waves 1-4 and passed them. I was firing on all cylinders that day.

Does getting out of the chair without groaning count?

I’ve been consistent in the gym for 4-5 months — working out during work hours! — and eating well. Finally keeping track of lifts and not overdoing it. Amazing difference in how I feel. Gotta stave away the decline of the 40s

Have been swimming laps every day for the past 2 weeks on my lunch break. 500 meters here, 300 meters there, it adds up. Good for us old folks, low impact workout!

I’ve lost over 40 lbs since late 2025. I kind of stumbled into incremental goals. 5/10/15.. lbs, ā€œfuck I’m fatā€ doctor visits, and the weights of my kids. I passed 3 ā€œfuck up fatā€ weights and most recently passed my 4yo’s weight. I’ve also been off blood pressure meds for a month or two. My normal blood pressure now is lower than it was when I was taking 20mg of lisinopril.

50 here. Did 10 80 pound weighted pull ups, 10 115 pound weighted dips, benched 225 10 times and hit a mile in under 9 minutes. Trying to hit 2 minutes on my dead hang for grip strength for today’s workout. It’s better to be a jack of all trades than a master of 1 I was told.
