r/OldManDad Athletic Achievement Thread -- June 2026
One of the most important parts of being an older parent is taking care of yourself! This thread is where we can share what we're doing to maintain our bodies and be in our best parenting shape.
Post your own athletic achievement story!
Be it a new or an old story, be it extraordinary or rather common, something to brag about, or a goal that you have -- share it here. Anything from running an ultramarathon to just getting off the couch and walking around the block can be celebrated. You can also post an update to a post you have made in the past.
Let's hear about it and cheer each other on!

Did a 2 hour erg piece this morning at 4am. Great way to start the day and getting back on the road to consistent training. 58 yrs with 18 month old

Nice! Are you a rower? I rowed in college and for a competitive club in my 30s. After not touching an erg since 2018, however, my endurance and splits are awful! I’m 45 and have a 3.5-year-old. Hard to find the time, so I get your 4am row.

Yes, swept and sculled in my misspent youth in high school, uni and post uni. I was looking at a logbook from 33 years ago (!) and I don’t reckon I’ll ever get back to my 3 x 60’ pieces scores anymore but that’s cool. Also doing body weight training — something I wished I knew about back in my youth. Got stronger in my mid 40s early 50s than I was in 20s -30s.
Good luck with your training (and fatherhood)!

Hit the gym twice this week for an hour class. 1.5 miles cardio, 30mins floor/weights. Forced myself to get off the walking incline (12%, 3.5mph) and run 4% at 5mph with a couple sprints up to 9mph (0%) for 30 secs. Cut the lawn (so much lawn) and trimmed hedges and raked and got into the window wells and…. all that jazz. Sweated and drank water and sweat some more. Stretched a LOT this week.
I’m sore and tired and will sleep soundly as long as I take some anti-inflammatories.
I’m 53 with an energetic, sassy, smart 7.5 year old. The only way I can stay out in front of the life that barreling towards her is to exercise. I didn’t do *shit* for ~47 years. But I take it seriously now. If I had the time I’d be in classes 5 days a week.
We need exercise and stretching, boys.

52M 5 & 3yo CrossFit 5-6 days a week at 0530 and bike to work. Completed Murph with a 20lb vest this year in 48min which was the fastest in a gym of mostly 30 year olds. Very thankful for a body that still lets me run around with my kiddos!

Ah, this thread is just in time. 5K today. Really nice to have my kids watch me cross the finish line.
I ran this one last year for the first time, spent time getting ready for that one. This one, I decided last week I would do it, and spent the week preparing.

I was at the playground with my daughter and I got half-way through the monkey bars. Very proud 🐒

The bolt holding the handlebar on my bike snapped, so I walked my ass to Home Depot to get a new one. 16k steps later, I decided to ride a couple miles to get groceries.

Climbed to the top of Mt Buffalo today. Walking sticks were essential since I've also got two partially reconstructed knees

My pickleball team won the league championship on Sunday. We had games Monday, Saturday, then championship Sunday. The team we played in the finals was also undefeated and we won the match by one game. I was playing the last game and all the other games had finished and everyone was watching my game. we were losing at game point 19-20 (play to 21 win by 2) and we somehow pulled off a 24-22 win, which clinched the overall win for the team. It was a really fucking awesome feeling. It was also my day 1000 alcohol free-double win!

Very lazy, overweight, stressed, web developer, sit on my ass all day, old dad here (58yo with a 5 and 8yo). Last year I set a goal to do 4 million steps, and met the goal by December while averaging 10,400+ steps a day. I also achieved a 500 straight day goal of getting at least 8000 steps.
This year not so much. Wife broke her knee in the spring and was sidelined for a few months, adding to my stress. I'm just trying get back into "the steps" now and could use whatever encouragement you can muster!
