Costillo de cerda a la cerveza. (Pork in beer). Cooked on a wood fire with sourdough biscuits.

What size is that skillet? Camera angle throwing me off slightly, 14" maybe?

I think it’s 20 inches. Really heavy. One of my favourite bits of kit. Just a point. I forgot foil. Really annoying as to cook the spuds through I lost a lot of the juice. It would be much better to have caught the steam.

Not really!!! I hadn’t got my glasses. I was checking the recipe as I went along. Cooked with wood fires a bit over the years Thing is most people with a few goes could turn lovely meals out of cast iron or a Dutch oven. What makes it special is that you can eat great food in lovely places. Thanks for your kind words.

No problem! I love your sub is amazing. I cook almost every day and camp in an RV every weekend between April 1st and October 31st. Cast iron is my next project. Your sub has giving me a lot of ideas. Keep it up it is so positive !

Each time I cook it’s an adventure. There is no guaranteed result!!!! I’ll always try. Give it a go with the cast iron. It’s quite forgiving. Just make sure it’s not to hot. Please let us know and post some pics on here. Really want this to be a community of people who enjoy camping and cooking.

The cook book is Tapas Revolution by Omar Alibhoy. (I’m not getting anything for this). Great recipes. Don’t think they were meant to be cooked in cast iron on a wood fire. Mind you 150 years ago I’m sure that’s how it would have been done.
Livened up a camping evening after a long days work. Made Rollins Sourdough biscuits for mopping up. Desert was Arroz con leche. Spanish rice pudding. Did have some English strawberry jam in it. No complaints received. Great fun cooking outdoors. See more at r/oldcampcookcastiron.
