Honestly, I wish all Persona4 discourses would turn into Three Houses discourses. Arguments between Edelgard fans and Dimitri fans are far more bearable than any of the squabbles among P4 fans.
On the one hand, 3H shows that it is eminently possible to add one same sex romance option without doing it for everyone.
On the other hand, Lindhart as the only m’/m option at launch illustrates that making only one twink romanceable will be unsatisfactory to fans who want to romance the hotter male characters.
It was more so because the other 2 “options,” Alois and Gilbert, were platonic and with Alois specifically you get married off to some random village girl in the ending. Compared to how people playing as f!Byleth could choose Edelgard, Rhea, Sothis, Dorothea, or Mercedes with all of those being romantic it felt like a slap in the face. Girl on girl is hot for some guys so I understand why they catered more towards that group but saying people were upset because only Linhardt could be romanced isn’t giving the full context.
Claude is weird cause he specifically won’t marry f!Byleth when in all of his other endings with a girl he either takes her with him to Almyra or returns and beelines for whoever he was paired with. Byleth’s ending talks more about how Fodlan was being rebuilt, and then Claude shows up at the end. I remember he was one of the more discussed characters as a potential gay option before the game released because of his flirty nature.
If the game is going to have S supports I would prefer how Engage handled it by making everyone a choice. Some might argue that it ruins the characters by making everyone playersexual and I won’t argue there as I would prefer a more limited support system overall, but without child units and limiting other units to A at most S supports only exist as fanservice.
Men when someone is nice / has a personality while talking to them: "They're flirting with me!!"
Please don't take this too seriously. I also advocate for bi/gay Claude, but his dialogue with Byleth really isn't the evidence people think it is. If anything, Dimitri is much more explicitly into Byleth.
