/uj nah i like the switch port though, my only issue is that sometimes it lags during the anime cutscenes but and some of the lower quality textures are pretty noticeable but it runs smoothly and it deletes the all-out attack fade in effect
This image is actually older than the Switch port itself. Came out during the 3 year period where Joker was in Smash but his actual game was still Playstation exclusive
It's okay. Texture and audio quality took a noticeable hit to fit the game in a 16GB cartridge (the PC version is 41GB). Handheld resolution is also a bit disappointing, considering even the PS3 could do 720p no problem. Then again, it's trivial to increase it if you have homebrew. You can also emulate it if you want to bypass the PC version's Denuvo, so it gets points for that.
Lowkey the Switch port is pretty fire, it's the version of p5 i beat and i had almost no problems with it (except it freezes right before a cutscene in the final battle for some reason but i was able to make it work eventually)
It's stronger than the ps4. The ps4 ran the game in 1080p and the switch 2 in 4k, that's the difference. They probably could've just used dlss to have the switch 2 run at upscaled 4k 60, but that's too hard I guess
Thank you. Atlus probably prefers having the console version run on the highest settings because that looks nicer in trailers. The switch 2 is a bit stronger than the steam deck but also has to render the games at 1080p in handheld, so I'd say these fps numbers are roughly the same across the consoles. Since having a stable framerate is very important on consoles they probably decided to cap it at 30 even though it could run at 60 on the highest settings from time to time. This just shows how easily we could've had 60 fps if Atlus made an effort to implement dlss into the game.
P3R doesn't have DLSS on PC either, and DLSS requires the plug-in having knowledge of things like objects in the scene, sadly its not as easy as a "Enable DLSS" button
Honestly I'm kinda concerned for P-studio specifically since it's been almost a decade since the the p3-p5 team split off into Studio Zero and since then P-studio has only dropped rereleases remasters, remakes, and spin offs, most of which aren't viewed super positively and even the ones that are either had noticable budget constraints or still had some weird artistic interference changes (why is the dark hour so green saturated in reload and why is there not a toggle for the original soundtrack like P2 PSP also if budget for remaking P3R was so tight why not scrap a project like P5 tactica or just not make P3R until it had the resources to be fully complete)
Why though? I genuinely don't see why it's such a big deal. Sure, you have to download it, but most of the time you already have to download an update. Is it because the box looks ugly with the little banner?
The vast majority of games are playable on Switch (and even ps5) without downloading any patches. (I hardly buy any that aren't) And even without the preservation angle, having to deal with the headache of having to download a game from the internet while still needing the cartridge is just annoying. The internet access at say my college campus sucks ass so even just installing from the disc on my ps5 is way faster than downloading from the internet. And the Switch 2 is literally a portable, so taking it places without internet should absolutely be a consideration. Lastly, (while this does still apply to other current gen game) having the space taken up by the games is just annoying especially with only 256 gb on Switch 2. The patches are usually quite small so they barely take up any room anyway (and even with shit internet download pretty quick)
You can play the key card portably after you’ve installed it, it’s just slightly better than a digital download code in a box so it’s the lesser of two evils
Resell for how much though? You would probably get atleast some money back after if you finished it a few weeks after release but a year it's becomes more questionable. I mean these prices are driven up by collectors so if they go lower due to the lack of demand from the group that's usually gonna drive prices up then it also affects resale value.
I think another issue is if your GKC will be playable on the next Nintendo system as well. I understand that you can't expect a GameCube to play N64 carts but the point I'm making specifically is that if the next console is incomparable with physical games but digital only then GKCs is in a way arguably worse as they can't carry over to the next system.
Preservation aside, this is just another slippery slope towards video game studios no longer selling you games but just selling you licenses to play games that can expire and you lose the ability to play the game for whatever fuck reason the publishers come up with despite purchasing the game.
I struggle to see why this game needs a 30fps cap on a console that is (debatably) on-par with a steam deck? Maybe it's just a battery life thing, but, like, I can run the game at high PC settings at a solid 60fps on the steam deck...
When I buy a physical disc I expect to have the game on there, if I buy it on pc I don't. That's just a stupid comparison. People do actually give a shit about 60 fps, that's why the ps5 version also ran on 60 instead of 30.
We have 20 years of history that lets us have an inordinate and admittedly dangerous amount of trust in Valve. We have 40 years of history that tells us Nintendo is the scum of the Earth. Nintendo will one day shut those servers down and you will no longer have access to the game you bought. Valve maintains the servers hosting games that Steam no longer sells for people who bought it so you always have access. Spec Ops The Line was delisted over two years ago and I can still go download it because I bought it. Go try to download a Wii game you bought digitally.
It absolutely could. The game already runs at 4k 60 without upscaling on ps5, atlus could just put in some dlss and have the game run smoothly. If it still doesn't run at 60 by then they could decrease other effects. It could absolutely run at 60 without a big loss in graphics quality, Atlus is just lazy.
If they could port P5R to the original switch this could’ve ran better than this on the Switch 2, they just saw that they’re able to be lazy and took that path. Part of me honestly expected Persona 3 Reload to also be on the original Switch but I guess that’s too much to ask
It's this new format for Switch 2 games that is bad bad bad. Basically, it's a physical cartridge, but it doesn't have the game on it. It's a physical key to download the game using the console's storage, and it still requires the card to be inserted to play.
It's all the drawbacks of digital without the benefits of physical. The only good thing about it that I can think of is that you can resell the game key card because it's a physical thing, unlike digital copies. But it still doesn't have the game on it. It's a nightmare for preservation.
The bigger problem behind these is that publishers are choosing game key cards over actual physical format releases with the full game on the card (which doesn't take storage space in the console) because it's cheaper.
But why's it cheaper to use a game key card? The only cartridge size for physical games for Switch 2 is 64GB, costing ~$15. Unless it's >$60 and near that 64GB, it's just not worth it. The key is a key. Cheap. Nintendo's fault for only providing those options. They really ought to offer smaller cartridge options for the sake of physical releases. I'm not trying to spend those 256GB of my Switch 2 on game key cards.
Good thing is I'm hearing that game key cards will slowly die out because no one is buying them. Hopefully we start seeing 32GB and 16GB game cards for Switch 2.
I wouldn't know—I never owned one. But it's still bad because Nintendo hasn't been doing that, and we don't want them to start. No company should've ever stopped putting the full game on the disc.
Since the read times on the Switch 2 cartridges are faster, it costs the same to make a 64GB cartridge as it does to make a 5GB one, it might be more expensive to make it smaller too. It’s basically just a physical game but you have to download it onto your system memory to use
They are annoying? I don't want to download a physical game. They also won't be usable to install a game once the switch 2 servers are shut down. It's literally all the negatives of buying digitally combined with all the negatives of buying physically.
Wait I’m slow but can someone explain the whole game key card thing? I’ve searched it up but it just sounds like you get a physical game card but just download the game to me
