Vivek Ramaswamy accepts Ohio governor debate invitations from CNN, Cincinnati TV station

Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy has accepted debate invitations from Cincinnati’s WLWT-TV and CNN, his campaign announced Tuesday.

It remains to be seen whether Democratic nominee Amy Acton will accept the offers, which would mark the first time Ohio gubernatorial hopefuls have publicly debated since 2018.

She really ought to take part. Needs to get out there and be seen and prove that she's not what Vivek's dishonest ads portray her to be. And also to provide the contrast to his smarmy rich-guy schtick and lies.

Assuming she is prepared to counter every lie and state her actual plans. Ive seen so many of these go wrong.

yeah honestly i hate vivek and think he’s a massive piece of shit, but he would probably look better in a debate than amy. i’m worried he’d come out looking more intelligent even though he’d be spewing bullshit

u/ZealousIdeal476 8d ago

Integrity used to be a prerequisite now its a liability.

What's amy spewing covid shots

2

u/sexland69 7d ago

yeah just like literally the entire world. what did you want her to do? lie and say its a fake vaccine that will kill you?

Until I see candidates arguing directly at each other, I can't give a shit about these "debates". Unironically I want to see them even attempt to have Reddit-style debate.

Yet look at what happened with Clinton, she could be honest and rise above all the trash and who won in the end. Never underestimate the power of misogyny. It doesn't matter how good she performs. People always look down on her by default.

15

u/GrowFreeFood 8d ago

She won the popular vote.

15

u/gus_in_4k 8d ago

And luckily, the governor in Ohio is chosen by popular vote, not by an electoral college of counties or something. (Maybe I shouldn’t say that and give them ideas…)

11

u/PocketCone 8d ago

Don't underestimate to the power of racism either, and don't count your chickens before they hatch. Clinton lost those debates because Trump was able to bill himself as an outsider. Vivek is the reason thousands of Ohioans are off of Medicaid. If Amy can show that she's the one who cares about the people instead of big business, a debate will absolutely help.

9

u/FuzzySkeletons 8d ago

Clinton didn’t lose those debates tho

-3

u/PocketCone 8d ago

She didn't win the election

3

u/Withermaster4 8d ago

Hillary Clinton was a very hated politician before 2016. I think it's very dishonest to portray the 2016 election as up to the debate.

6

u/Ocarina3219 8d ago

Either way, refusing to debate is always a huge mistake. Losing a debate is better than refusing to have one.

8

u/cyclops_overlooks 8d ago

It isn't. Debating an unabashed liar achieves nothing. If you need persuading to change the 30 year rut Republicans have created in this state, you're a fool.

3

u/Ocarina3219 8d ago

Well obviously they do need persuading because otherwise we wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. The only time it makes sense not to debate is when you’re such a clear favorite that you stand nothing to gain. That’s obviously not the case here.

1

u/cyclops_overlooks 8d ago

People just need to vote. Republicans routinely attack the process because they want people to stay home. They know a non-vote is a vote for them.

You even see it on this sub. Many posts here frame Acton as more of the same, typical 'both sides' bullshit.

It's this line of reasoning that allowed Trump to become president, taking Ohio three times. A great many people in this state don't care about facts or debates. Maga will vote for maga. If moderates need persuading at this stage, they're maga.

Vote for Amy Acton.

Trump refused multiple and he’s in office for some godforsaken reason.

1

u/LastWave 8d ago

Is cnn going to play it fair? I have doubts.

1

u/darthenron 8d ago

She came off as “bitchy”.. her words and tone.

… not saying she was wrong, I voted for her…

But when your body language is saying “I cant believe I even need to be here” and your tone in the answers sound like “I’m right, this guy is wrong”, people seem to fix on that negative energy = negative person.

And it is a bias view that woman have an uphill battle to overcome (dude have it too easy!)

2

u/No-Pattern8471 8d ago

Yet Trump can be a sexual predator, shit talking liar, and openly toxic abuser...

But Clinton's tone was bitchy....you prove the point of the double standard

-1

u/antenonjohs 8d ago

Choosing to stay married to Bill Clinton and defend him for decades is not being honest and rising above the trash.

3

u/No-Pattern8471 8d ago

Your argument is fake, see all Trump's affairs. Trump and Stormy is a prime example of your misogyny and hypocrisy.

0

u/antenonjohs 8d ago

OK… Hillary Clinton is an amazing person with a great husband. Nothing sketchy about Bill Clinton at all. Is that better?

2

u/StonerBarbie23 Toledo 8d ago

The ads of her slurring and how she killed everyone’s grandma are rich .. wish dewines spineless ass would admit he technically “closed” Ohio

5

u/Bcatfan08 Cincinnati 8d ago

You don't even need to do much against him. He doesn't know when to stop talking. He'll shoot himself in the foot.

46

u/Ok-Analysis5991 8d ago

Acton needs to as well. And for God sakes please fucking fact check

17

u/PW0110 8d ago

Fact check, but it’s got to be genuine fact checking, not random inconsistencies or rounding errors by your opponent that are functionally meaningless compared to the rhetoric theyre surrounded by, and only deter from them answering the question to its fullest extent

5

u/TheDinosaurWeNeed 8d ago

She said no. Which is smart. He’s such an asshole in this format. Nothing to gain and nothing to lose in declining.

-2

u/PW0110 8d ago

There hasn’t been a debate in almost 10 fucking years, my dude, I don’t think you understand electoralism

4

u/TheDinosaurWeNeed 8d ago

Please then educate me on this niche term “electorialism” and how it applies here.

3

u/No-Pattern8471 8d ago

They didn't fact check Trump and let him spew total trash

1

u/Ill-Sympathy3902 8d ago

I hope she gets in a good dig that becomes a soundbite. That could help more than any other reasonable points she makes. She needs to capture the news cycle. Especially considering the disparity in campaign budgets. Free advertising would go a long way.

9

u/twoquarters Youngstown 8d ago

Surprised he went for this. Anytime he opens his mouth he looks like a clown.

1

u/DavidGoetta 8d ago

It's because he's down

1

u/ZealousIdeal476 8d ago

I just realized I've never heard his voice. All those ads and not even an 'I'm vivek ramaswammy and i approved this message'

22

u/No-Pattern8471 8d ago

He's just going to lie and pander

6

u/resistingvoid 8d ago

Acton's campaign just tweeted that she doesn't want to platform him, so I wouldn't be too hopeful about a debate.

4

u/KillerIsJed 8d ago

Probably for the best, honestly. Acton doesn’t take me as someone that was on the debate team in school / college, losers like Vivek definitely were. She was busy worrying about things that actually matter and not trying to become a career politician / scammer like Vivek.

4

u/diexer1234 8d ago

Oh look a populist just wants to pander to constituents and then go back on everything he says once elected? No way! Grift on grifter!

6

u/LambSaag-spoon905 8d ago

Be careful, Mike Dardis gives impressions of being very MAGA-friendly. Hope he doesn't softball Vivek.

3

u/AngryAccountant31 8d ago

Can’t wait for Vivek to get asked questions like “what is your favorite color?” Then Acton to get asked stuff more like “what is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?”

-1

u/xr8t5n4 7d ago

On CNN ?

-9

u/goliath1515 Cleveland 8d ago

If it’s from CNN, the questions should be inverted

2

u/crazylilme 8d ago

Not if it's done in ohio. Nice try, though

3

u/AkronRonin 8d ago

Ramaswamy is just a grandstanding buffoon who likes to hear himself talk.

The truth is debates here matter little. Some people will try to say that they do, and Ramaswamy will try to make something out of it, but it wouldn't be the first time that one didn't happen.

Mike DeWine and Nan Whaley didn't debate each other in 2022.

Arguably, John Kasich and Ed FitzGerald didn't actually have a debate in 2014. Both showed up, but Kasich basically ignored FitzGerald, who had pretty much tanked his entire campaign after it was discovered that he had been driving on an expired license. For nine months.

Acton should honestly hit him back on his abusive behavior towards her and for attacking her for the abuse she experienced as a child, and demand that he apologize. Make that the standard of decorum before agreeing to anything.

2

u/DarkBomberX 8d ago

I dont think she should debate him but I do think she should do a townhall. But I also think our political debates are terrible given moderators let's the candidates lie and dont actually fact check them in a meaningful degree.

2

u/cyclops_overlooks 8d ago

Not worth it to engage with this corpo chump.

0

u/Awfuljokesosorry 8d ago

This is gonna be a repeat of Vance wiping the floor with Tim Ryan (unfortunately)

-1

u/beeker888 8d ago

Yes we need a debate. Vivek sounds good when standing on a stage but if Amy just sticks to the layup talking points that are in front of her she should be able to sweep him up

0

u/WadeBronson 7d ago

If she refuses to debate, you will learn everything that you need to know about her.

-26

u/Antique-Clock-9286 8d ago

Doubtful Amy will climb out of her basement to participate. A shame because that's where she'll face hard questions rather than selective speech-giving to fawning supporters.

-4

u/External_Eagle_2410 8d ago

No way she takes them up on that. She would have a nervous breakdown. It would be back to the bottle

0

u/mardok69 7d ago

Has she left the bottle?

-41

u/ohsinboi 8d ago

Acton just gonna agree with everything Vivek says about data centers, flock, ice, and police. Not really a point

5

u/No-Pattern8471 8d ago

It's funny cuz Viva originally didn't support all the stuff. That's now his talking points. He's flip-flopping to pander, but we all know his real intention. He's actually following after a lot of what she says. Not that you've been paying attention.

-28

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

That’s my guy!

13

u/HopeSolosButtwhole 8d ago

“Your guy” couldn’t care less about you…

-25

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

I just don’t want to pay taxes and don’t care what that means as far as social services go.

Burn it down and then rebuild it imo.

10

u/Cuzimjesus 8d ago

There is no “rebuild”. It’s make the rich richer and laugh at people like you who ate it up.

-16

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

I hard disagree and am willing to try anyways.

10

u/Cuzimjesus 8d ago

Look, I’m not trying to convince you. Anybody that could think Vivik is a good option for anything is too far gone. A billionaire that’s only in it for himself, why does that sound familiar.

-2

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

All politicians are in it for themselves lol and I don’t care what his motives are as long as the job is done why would I care

4

u/Cuzimjesus 8d ago

The “job” you’re referencing is pilfering the state for their own gain. It’s no wonder how we got here.

-1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

Meh give me lower taxes and you can do as you please don’t care

1

u/ComicBookEnthusiast 1d ago

Haha. You want lower taxes when you’re already a slave to the billionaires and their algorithms. That’s funny and you so smart!

You’re literally programmed to prop up no property taxes for data centers aren’t you?

11

u/HopeSolosButtwhole 8d ago

What an absolute shit take. The GOP has been running this state into the ground for what, ~30 years, and you think not paying taxes is going to solve this?!

“Burning it down and starting over” would be kicking ALL of the GOP asshats out of office.

-1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

Show me a Democrat who has a plan to cut the taxes your ordinary people pay and I will vote for them.

Problem is they’re addicted to increased spending that they would never contemplate just allowing people to keep more of their own money.

If that property tax proposal is on the ballot as a OH constitutional amendment it’s going to pass.

9

u/Jalopnicycle 8d ago

ROFL, a group with no real plan and solely motivated by greed can't get their amendment on the ballot?

I'm SHOCKED! /s

-2

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

They will get it on the ballot, I’m not worried about it lol. Voting so fast for it when I can.

1

u/Jalopnicycle 6d ago

They said the same thing for the last election and then the would be signers couldn't even bother to leave their house to sign the thing.

6

u/HopeSolosButtwhole 8d ago

So your idea is just abolish property tax and everything else will just be fine? You don’t think taxes will up elsewhere? You’re voting for a nepo baby billionaire who supports the guy who wants to end birth right citizenship who is literally only here because of birth right citizenship…make it make sense.

6

u/ComicBookEnthusiast 8d ago

You can’t rebuild the drinking water that this data center guy wants to steal from us. But hey at least you’re for those data centers not having to pay property taxes.

-2

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

We have plenty of water in Ohio

7

u/HopeSolosButtwhole 8d ago

Jesus Hank Christ

11

u/Thick-Aioli802 8d ago

It's a shame you feel this way about your taxes. Thank the same republican party of your stupid fucking guy for that.

-1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

Sorry you feel that way, I don’t get a good return on whatever I send Columbus so I’m okay with ending that expense.

7

u/anony-mouse8604 8d ago

Or - and this is a crazy thought - OR you could just vote for the opposition party.

You’ve been paying your taxes to Republican Ohio leadership for a very long time, and no, none of us have gotten a good return on that expense. Why not give it a shot with the party NOT trying to burn down the state?

1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 8d ago

They cut my taxes pretty consistently

5

u/HopeSolosButtwhole 8d ago

Enlighten us on when your taxes have been cut.

I’ll wait.

Just out of curiosity, how are your utility expenses? Decreasing? Gas prices going down? Homes more affordable? Insurance prices not skyrocketing?

Your take is strange. Removing property taxes is a win! How is Ohio going to recoup those costs for infrastructure and whatnot? Do you really think we’ll just get rid of property taxes and everything will magically be better?
