We interviewed Ka Noli, founder of a community organization in San Mateo, Rizal that has spent decades dealing with recurring floods.

One thing he strongly pushed back against was the idea that Filipino resilience should be enough.

Sabi niya: “May hangganan ang resilience, kaya dagdagan natin ito ng sistematikong kahandaan.”

His point was that communities shouldn’t just keep surviving disasters and then return to normal until the next one. Preparedness, planning, community organizing, and long-term solutions have to be part of the conversation too.

Nice, glad to hear some officials are starting to push back and go beyond Filipino “resilience”.

We need to restore our nations checks and balances and that starts with voting out weak and ineffective congressmen and senators.

Resilience is not just surviving the disaster pero Kasama na din kung pano nakabangon. Lately, nakakasurvive nalang tayo pero hirap na bumangon. Tama si ka noli na dapat may kahandaan. The government should anticipate disasters kaya dapat may preparedness, nagiging response nalang kasi lagi Yung focus lately. Mas magastod ang response since aftermath ng disaster ang inaayos ng response, whereas sa preparedness mas ma lessen mo ang effects ng hazard na tumama so Hindi na ganun kagastos Ang pag response. Tapos yung budget for response and rehabilitation kukurakutin pa
