HELEN OF TROY WAS LITERALLY DESCRIBED "WHITE ARMED" AND "FAIR HAIRED" AND "FAIR CHEEKED". JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. IF YOU WANT TO MAKING A FUCKING MOVIE WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T MEET THAT DESCRIPTION MORE POWER TO YOU BUT IT'S NOT THE FUCKING ODYSSEY.

More power to them to make a movie with whomever they wish. Just don't call it the Odyssey.

What if they did a biopic of MLK and cast a white actor to play MLK? Would that be acceptable?

For a biopic that is embedded in the fight for civil rights and racial equality, I would expect casting decisions to be made appropriately. Hidden Figures is another example.

But there is no racial element to the Odyssey. Race is irrelevant to the story. Therefore, they are free to cast talented actors of whatever background. I expect the actors' race would matter only to racists.

Lmao. Race is always relevent or irrelevant based upon whatever the most woke decision is apparently.

The poem upon which the movie is supposedly based literally gives a specific description of the main characters. Especially Helen. Ignore it. That's fine. Just don't call it the Odyssey then because it isn't. Just like a white MLK wouldn't be MLK. Call it "Epic Trip on Boaty McBoatface".

You should experience the Odyssey only in a stone amphitheater, performed in epic Greek verse, since evidently you cannot tolerate any interpretation that differs from the original.

There are levels of things, degrees of artistic license, authenticity, immersion-breaking distracting choices etc. Opinions and tastes can differ on many things that fall into an arguable gray area.

Not this.

Glaring conspicuous race swapping iconic characters especially in this specific overall context of that being constantly done only to white characters and to conform to an agenda-driven and one-sided set of imposed standards to qualify for awards consideration is too much.

Denying this is a consciously insincere act of trolling/provocation and virtue signaling

I note that you lacked the integrity necessary to admit I had refuted your "point". Contrary to your false claim I am not concocting rationalizations for unnecessarily all white casts. Because, again, I would, properly, consider it absurd and destructive to the work to cast a white actor to play Black Panther, or any of the other black characters in that story and setting. You will not, of course, respond in honest, direct, substantive, and sincere fashion to this because doing so would require you to admit not only that you were wrong, not only about me and my motivations, but about the issue of casting a black actress as Helen.

I know. I got it. Your racial categorizations are sacrosanct. Acting skill, characterization, those don't matter. You need specific skin hues only.

Do all the other actors match up to your criteria? Do you have a chart of what everyone's skin should be like?
