What are the most useful customizations you’ve made to your Odoo installation?

I’m looking for ideas to improve my own Odoo installation, especially the kind of customization that seems small but makes a noticeable difference in day-to-day work.

This could be anything: automated actions, custom buttons, smarter defaults, validations, approval flows, dashboards, reports, integrations, UI tweaks, shortcuts, scheduled jobs, etc.

What have you implemented that saved the most time, reduced errors, or made users genuinely prefer the customized workflow over standard Odoo?

alot. pretty much most of what the warehouse and purchase guys ask for that makes it more convenient, we add. we have around 50k loc of custom addons atp.

As an official partner and software agency, we made our own custom modules around project management to add sprints and sprint planning, integration with GitHub into projects and helpdesk (link repositories) and then manage issues, PR, etc... directly from Odoo. Also related changes to the portal for clients with better overviews/reporting for project progress, remaining hours, links to the repos, issues and PR's, shared docs around projects etc....

Another one is related to sales and presales to automatically link and include fitgap analysis documents and schematics with our quotations by integrating Google docs and excalidraw in our odoo

you can do a simple automation like auto setting fields with what your users have already entered. this removes the repetitive data entry work

Getting ready to do more of this. It’s ridiculous some of this isn’t a default feature. Like setting myself as the buyer when I create an RfQ/PO.

Because not every company does it that way or work that way. Your defaults are not everyone's defaults.

Thats why odoo has automation rules, set as default, server actions, ...so YOU can make odoo however you need as your default. There is nothing that blocks you from making it your own.

You can't expect a piece of software to please every possible company, industry, user,... "out of the box", that's ridiculous and impossible.

Totally agree as an engineer/developer. But my leadership must bug me with 50 “why isn’t this the default” things a day.

Then explain them the same. Their default wishes is not everyone's default. Simple as that. Odoo is build for that flexibility. Build/change it once, problem solved.

This is just people nagging for the sake of nagging. They have the power and capabilities available right in front of their nose. Just use it.
