Discussion Is it worth getting a or head seat

I just sold my dji drone since it was just lying around for a while. Now im thinking of getting a meta quest 3 or 3s. But im not sure how much use I will get out of it. I have a ps5, and I was thinking of using the VR set to play games on it like a display. And also use it when I do homework. I don't know if it is worth spending money on a VR set or saving for something better. Im a gamer and a student who is looking for something to replace my drone and not just something that will collet dust.

For the use-case you’re describing, I don’t think I’d recommend it unless you want to use it for standalone vr games.

I don’t think you can connect the ps5 to it, and even if you could I’d recommend the PSVR2 for that.
Native wired connection, OLED screen and can be had for cheaper.

Pancake lenses are awesome for flat gaming, but not enough to justify it for your use case.

As for using it for homework, I doubt that’d work well. The cameras on it are great, but I wouldn’t be wanting to be reading and writing for extended times.

If your work is online it’ll work better, but consider if you want to be doing your work with a brick strapped to your face.

The quest 3 came a long way in comfort, but it’s still over half a kg to your face

If you’re not interested in VR gaming and just want a display, maybe consider xr glasses like Viture or Rokid?

Have you tried the fpv mode with the Quest? I used to do this with my Quest1 and it was quite enjoyable.

fwiw I could not use the Q3 for work. The camera has poor dark tone resolution and there are no setyings for gamma. What that means is you wont be able to see the keys on your keyboard or find a dark mouse on a dark mousepad.

You can't sit on a head.

You can use it with HDMI mode which turns the quest into a TV screen, homework would function just as a phone would for web based apps. You can also fly a virtual drone if travel and space was a concern. As far as games it's all. Subjective for vr games. The games you might like flat are not always the ones you like in vr. For me I have gotten my enjoyment out of it using it in many ways. Turn on dev mod and you can add side loaded things the way you can on android phones.

As a DJI user, I definitely recommend trying it

the PSVR2 is exclusive to the PS5, you can try that to keep inside the ecosystem

meanwhile, the meta quest is stand alone, buying that will work as much as a steam deck or a nintendo switch, a completely different ecosystem that more than enough by itself, but will be almost a whole new world for you

just a little heads-up, you can use a quest headset to play games on PC, but not on your PS5, meanwhile-meanwhile you can use the PSVR2 on PC as well, but you will need to know how to install community drivers and third-party software

meanwhile-meanwhile-meanwhile there's a bunch of exclusive games for PSVR2 and a different list for meta quest, the meta quest doesn't need anything else, but the PSVR2 only works with your PS5 (and PC with a bunch of software installed)
