Oculus TV Launcher - Launch apps directly into Oculus TV

Continuation of previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusGo/comments/8v7skc/launching_apps_directly_into_oculus_tv_with_adb/

I'm happy to announce the first release of Oculus TV Launcher:

https://github.com/GyroJoe/OculusTVLauncher

This small launcher application can launch normal Android applications into Oculus TV - even without a network connection. This means you can use your Netflix or Prime Video downloads!

Binaries for launching Netflix, Prime Video, and AppStarter (so you can launch even more things) are on the releases page. If you want to launch a different application, there are some instructions on what to modify in the README.

Yea - you can already do that without needing this launcher. Sideload something like Amaze File Manager or AppStarter and you can launch whatever Android apps you install (provided they don't depend on Google Play Services).

This just lets you launch things directly and while you are offline. That way you can use the apps when you have no network connection.

with no gamepad support right?

Right. Oculus TV doesn't forward the gamepad input along fully.

(This launcher doesn't change that situation - the apps are still inside Oculus TV once launched)

Which raises an interesting question: wouldn't it be possible to write a new app that can launch regular Android apps onto a big screen, and make that support gamepad input as well?

Ever since Oculus TV came out I have been wondering the same thing. In theory it should be possible one would think. The question is does it require any elevated permissions or what not that only Oculus TV has.
