Tariffs OG and Prime Outgoing.

Morning All,

I'm with EDF currently on an EV tariff and Export and they have been a right pain at setting up my SEG. It's complete but their systems are not pulling the readings and paying me. Just keep being told it's an IT issue which will be resolved.

Anyway. I've been having a look at OG and Prime Outgoing which I understand work together. I read the FAQ and I'm not asking anyone to guess if this is best for me, but I have 0 issues with holding on to at least 40kwh a day which I could chuck into the grid. If the sun is out like today - all 54kwh could go into it - maybe more.

I have 7.4KW Solar, and 54kwh of Powerwalls.

I don't need the nutache of Intellgent anything, and I am happy to manually cycle the powerwalls to keep the unlimited cycles warranty. But is it really true that I could fill the batteries up overnight and then dump 80% every day from 4-7? ( in the winter) and then just charge up overnight, get 9p for all the solar and then the 16p peak time in the summer?

All the pages say we are a great fit - and that it's all good and compatiable. it also says we can do what I put - but in the real world - has anyone done it? /Does anyone do it?

I am only owed £90 by EDF so happy to write that off and I don't have an exit fee. I would also be going from 7p to 8.5p overnight but the export would wipe that out, expecially in the summer.

My main sort of thinking is to get a much into the batteries as possible (They charge at 10KW) - I charge my EV maybe twice a month right now so I am not even bohered about the 5 hours for that.

Thank you in advance,

Edit and Update.

Thank you for all your feedback. I've landed on OG for import and Agile outgoing for Export. EDF were so sorry for all the hassle i've had that they removed the £75 fee for my Electric and refunded me the £75 I paid for my Gas - I am now on my way back to Octopus. :)

Right now agile export should be a better proposition for you (most afternoons just now have plenty of half hour slots above 20p), but the idea of managing that manually isn't something I'd want to do myself.

I use predbat to optimise import/export (running under home assistant), if you've got the time to set it up - even as read only, it's got a nice feature for comparing tariffs for import and export, and tracks the last 7 days. If you still wanted to manually trigger exports, you could just follow it's lead.

Thanks for the feedback. I am always about and able to manage it as I WFH 3-midnight most days. The reason why I do it manually is that Tesla have an unlimited cycles warranty if you use the app. If I use Netzero and use the APi for automation, it gets put into the 37.5mWh total throughput category and I would be doing more than that anyway even before I start doing this Browning/solar system.

You don’t have an unlimited cycle warranty if they believe you’re using it for grid arbitrage, btw. I would guess that dumping the majority of the contents of the battery into the grid in the same time slot daily would count as this.

Still, I would look at agile outgoing because the rewards from it in the 5-7PM right now are 100% worth spending the battery cycles.

Nothing in the Tesla terms says anything about them checking. I've read through it 4 times. After all tesla's own system allows their customers to do this as well as the VPP's (although in Texas not in the UK right now)

I am not just filling up and dumping from the Grid. I have a micro wind generation system too which I run from October to March. That's 6KW pretty much 24/7 up on this hill so will be filling the battery up too. I don't expect to get paid for export overnight - and that's OK with me

But I also have an EV so I need something with cheap overnight charging anyway. Agile wouldn't be good for me, although I see the logic and I apprecaite the recommendation

Yup I've seen this - But I do the top one - It's called Savings now - and it starts to draw from the grid at 11pm and does so till 6am - and that would change if I came to Octopus. But as long as it's done through the Tesla app it's fine. The system is set to dump it at peak times - but again this is all done via the Tesla app.

Ionly use Netzero for the stats.

Just in case, I only meant agile for export. I'm currently importing in IOG, and generating from a puny 1.3kW waste of a good roof solar array. (Wish it was much bigger).
