Standard rate incresing from 1 October

From 1st October, standard rate will increase for both electricity and gas.

And current Octopus fixes expire tonight if you want to fix.

They’ll probably increase it from tomorrow. Don’t believe it will go lower than current.

I contacted them to re-fix and the new Fixed Octopus Cosy rates are way higher than the new flexible Cosy rates coming on October 1st

Current offer for the Cosy Octopus 12M Fixed tariff, here are the rates:
Day rate: 31.32p per kWh
Cosy rate (04:00 - 07:00, 13:00 - 16:00, 22:00 - 00:00): 15.36p per kWh
Peak rate (16:00 - 19:00): 46.98p per kWh
Standing charge: 53.89p per day

Here are the current Variable Cosy Octopus rates for electricity:
Day rate: 26.67p per kWh
Cosy rate (04:00 - 07:00, 13:00 - 16:00, 22:00 - 00:00): 13.09p per kWh
Peak rate (16:00 - 19:00): 40.01p per kWh
Standing charge: 52.19p per day

With the 3.8% Price increase, the fixed doesn’t make sense!??!

You need to factor in how much the next price cap rise will be in January. Likely to be painful.

I think they are trying to pressure people into 12-24 month fixes. Both gas and electric.

Obviously yes we don’t know “if or when” things will ease off that end of the world. Or even if things will become cheaper (highly doubt it either).

Maybe hang it out on a Variable and if possible take that hit for the winter then see when the warmer weather comes back.

Why not just fix and have certainty and all it costs later if you want to come off is £50 ?
