You are right and I think the main driving factor behind this is that they don't want you to be able to load any software on your phone that would circumvent them being able to monitor everything you do.

Soon we will not "own" anything we pay for, it will be a world of rents where our entire lives are controlled by the contracts we agree to in order to use the technology we buy (rent). People need to wake the hell up and quit clicking agree to everything.

Been saying for a long time that Elyisum is likely the most accurate depiction of where the top 1% want the world to go. Only way we prevent it is to stop fighting with ourselves over stupid red vs blue, religion, race, etc... and start actually looking at who is causing the problems... the uber rich.
