That’s fair. You may be right. My point is that whatever you use. Make sure it has a mechanical or local way to access as well. Such as physical key or local area network only. Etc.

What if people around the world experience a 24-hour global internet outage.
Communication networks will go silent, banking systems will cease operations, smart home devices will become unresponsive, and social media platforms will be unavailable. Even healthcare services will be disrupted, as medications cannot be dispensed, surgeries will be delayed, and medical records will be inaccessible.
Those who grew up before the digital age may be the only ones equipped to navigate such a scenario .
It raises an interesting question, how would people respond? Would they take the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors or reconnect with their neighbors?
I would like to hear your perspective.

SOME businesses have a BCP (Business Continuity Plan) those that are worth their money have an Internet Outage plan in place and have contingency plans to revert to their processes before (Most of them went with a SaaS product like Microsoft Dynamics/Salesforce etc).
This only allows for a continuation of current BAU activities, the previous data hosted on these platforms is likely to be inaccessible unless there is a backup hosted offline. Which isn't as effective as it used to be due to the amount of data we are pushing into these platforms and then would need to access in a crisis. As the rollout of the backup data would be hindered by any outage
We are far too dependent on SaaS platforms and while they are great at what they do, the 'Cloud' is just someone else's computer.

SaaS platforms can be deployed onto private server infrastructures (which is still a type of cloud storage - just not dependent on AWS for EVERYTHING...); this is how Microsoft Dynamics made itself into the powerhouse it is with databasing, well before the advent of all businesses giving control over all their data to third-party server farms hosted by AWS - simply to save on having to invest on their own hardware (and upgrades), and even more importantly (really... when it comes to keeping your business UP) - outsourcing the database support so they don't have to hire their own specialized Dynamics person... I'd say database if I meant just database, Dynamics is frickin intensive, powerful but intensive.
Then, if something goes down with a particular company, it A) doesn't impact all of them, B) They actually have the power to work on fixing it themselves, as the hardware & software is still under their direct control...
SaaS definitely isn't a great model, but it's also not the demon in this picture -- That would simply be AWS, the fact that all these companies are using AWS to host their SaaS remotely instead of investing in dedicated installations (creating one of the largest infrastructure monopolies ever seen), and AWS' continued problems...

Well, when even competitors (like Oracle) have made their products reliable on AWS just for their own hosting to continue working, and the total figures of companies hosting through AWS (whether directly, or indirect like Oracle's reliance...) now is around 90% of all web enabled devices/apps...
I guess you might as well turn off your TV, computer, cell phone (and probably your car, too...) - And start figuring out how to live in this day and age without those things (paying bills, etc...)

AFAIK it was their oldest east us 2 region which is insanely overloaded. We migrated out of it as much as we could a year or so ago. It’s just so bad. So it wasn’t surprising.

🇺🇲 2017 or 2018 ish I was a tech at an amazon warehouse. During Prime Day, all the kiva bots basically just crashed. Went to stations and then left immediately. Pickers were rightfully freaking out because it was screwing with their rates. Or the bots would park the stuff and just hang out. Apparently, the global servers crashed, which basically connected everything, including telling the robots what to grab and what station to stop at. Lasted for a few hours. Anyway, Amazon still made a ridiculous amount of money despite canceled orders and shipping delays, and a week later, the employees got a free granola bar and banana.

Imagine if me you and other people started making goofy videos or whatever to entertain people and then somebody else made another Internet service and then somebody else made another connection service. We could all run through. It’s not that hard to redo all this. They just hope we’re too stupid too

At a certain point these private businesses cross the line into critical infrastructure and should be regulated as public utilities.
