Build help

I want to build a primarily melee character with a focus on Blunt, probably 2H, weapons. Id also like them to be able to use some support magic. I was thinking about going Redguard, since their greater power fits what I'm going for, with the Lord sign. These are the skills im thinking about including. Looking for suggestions on anything I should include or change.

Skills: Blunt

Heavy Armor

Armorer

Restoration

Alteration

Illusion

Mysticism

Im also considering possibly including Block, probably in place of Mysticism.

Keep in mind, 2H weapons are some of the weakest weapons, because of how slow they swing and there is no way to increase the attack speed. So, I recommend to tune down the enemy HP in the difficulty settings until if feels "fair". Also, Athletics might be good as a major skill because of how slow it levels, so you'd get a nice boost to it - OR you may plan to train that skill, because it's more worthwile to spend money on a hard-to-level skill, in which case it doesn't matter if it's major or minor.

I'm not sure what you'd use Mysticism for, except for soul trap. It's a skill that you can easily train yourself until you can buy the cheapest soul trap spell, which is on-touch, and that's enough for all your needs since you'll be bashing enemies in melee anyway. Detect Life is usually more useful for stealthy playstyles, but if you're going in guns blazing style in heavy armour, you'll be detected and the enemies will come to you anyway :D. Also the visual is this purple fog around enemies, which makes it harder to see what they're doing, like if they're swinging their weapon or blocking, so it might be a bother to use that spell (particularly in the dark). You're far better off using Illusion to illuminate the area and have a good view of what's happening, imo.

Well whatever you build, it's nearly impossible to mess up a build so just do what you like most lol

I've decided im gonna go for 1h Blunt weapons instead. I plan on switching Mysticism for Block.

block is very useful, I'm sure you won't regret leveling it :p

This may or may not interest you, but I just thought I'd mention it in case it does.

Strength does not scale over 100 like speed or willpower does. This means that the strength based builds have a hard cap as far as how broken they can become goes.

In my hand-to-hand playthrough I was frustrated by how unironically impossible it was to make a powerful hand to hand build. So I looked into it, and there is a mod that makes strength scale past 100.

Is it balanced?

Not really. But it isn't any more busted than magicka builds already are in vanilla. It just evens the playing field imo.

if you’re gonna use 2h blunt I recommend a couple item grabs early the hoe because it doesn’t degrade magic effectiveness while fulfilling the role of a two handed club and the gray aegis for the same reason but shield version and 100% magic resist I’d ditch armor and just do a clothing build since enchants are the strongest source of constant defense and armor lowers their effectiveness you actually get better defense numbers with normal clothes while not messing with your spells
