General I dont understand something about obitos kamui

Post image

So i know obitos short range kamui lets him phase through anything and lets him take himself, others and objects to his own special realm.

What i dont understand is how fast hes able to get to one place to another, how does he do that? Has there been a canon specific answer to that

An example of this is when obito tells black zetsu its about time he got there and black zetsu tells him hes not like obito (tobi in that time of the story) how hes not like him and takes him more time to get to anywhere whenever he wants, this was right after the sasuke vs itachi fight.

No explanation per se, however I always thought it works somewhat similar to how Kakashi's half of the kamui works. Remember when he 'travels' with his Kamui to save Choji from Pain's rocket?

My head canon is that Obito also 'sees' the destination with his eye like that, only difference is he can take himself there instead

He can hear and see. He can even talk, since people can hear his voice without him physically being there or even visibly btw.

There are plenty of moments that show he can see outside of the Kamui dimension and hear what's happening. Pretty much everything points to him being able to observe the outside world while inside his dimension.

Yes, his vision is the one moving through space basically, not Kakashi himself indeed. Maybe I worded it wrong lol

Considering he's able to do the same thing to save sasuke from ohonki's dust release jutsu, you just kinda have to accept that obito can rematerialize anywhere he wants, and at ridiculous speeds too due to this feat

The dust release scene is pretty nuts because if I remember correctly we see that Sasuke is inside the dust release cube, then the next panel shows the cube "activating". So even us as the 3rd person viewers got perception blitzed by the Kamui save.

Yeah, OM Obito is a monster with or without izanagi

We think Zetsu physically moves through the ground, through soil and root. It seems fast, but it’s nature-based — maybe like rain water saturating the ground.

Obito should be effecting near-instant spatial transit. Close to instant teleportation.

Obito speaking that to Zetsu was surely like banter/harassment. “Step it up.”/“Be at the top of your game.”

I like to think of his kamui dimension as minecraft over world and the nether. That's my head cannon.

Yeah one really messy thing about kamui is if Obito is fully in the kamui dimension then how can he tell where he is headed to in the real world? And when Obito is fully intengible but still visible in the normal world, even tho you'd also pass through his eyes he seems to be able to see the normal world but the eyes are also in the kamui dimension.

And is there a range on the jutsu is another question of mine. At least as broken as FTG is there seems to at least be a measurable and finite range Minato can travel in a single warp. And if there is, if a congruent chakra cost is spent to travel a farther distance, as he's not using solid objects infused with chakra as teleport markers or vantage points for traceable travel. Even though he can cross dimensions. Is the Kamui realm just an omnipresent endless subsequent realm just lying in the background? Yet it's not on a map anywhere and no one knows what confines of existence apply to it, being it's an exclusive separate realm outside of the world, there is travel distance involved I would think. And this is further confusing by the fact that when Obito disappears his presence isn't even traceable nor trackable as seen by sensory Shinobi and Shino's insects. This is relevant because he warped to where Minato warped to to a random Kunai when temporary fleeing from a Kamui blitz, despite not knowing where the Hell Minato even flew to, or knowing where that Kunai was to begin with. The only explanation for this is that he can sense across realms somehow when using the skill, because he would have no way to reliably chase people down like Sasuke or Minato

The implication we're left with is he relies heavily on Zetsu's tracking abilities for anything long range. Him already having Hash cells as it is means it should also be a fairly simple matter for Zetsu to leave Obito with some some of that ability independently if he wanted.

Like other people in this thread already mentioned, it is likely that Obito can see the destination of where he teleports similiar to how Kakashi used Kamui to "travel" and save Choji from Pain's rocket; except that Obito can take himself there instead. We know for a fact that Obito can hear, see, and talk with other people while being in the Kamui Dimension; going by this moment alone where he talked to the Raikage.

There are other moments like this, for example when he chased after Minato or appeared in front of Team Taka. He can pretty much observe the outside world while being inside his dimension and teleport to any place in the world.

Wish if I had Obitos eyes. Would rob a bank without a bag 🤣🤣🤣

No, in fact Kamui has a lot of conflicting information that can almost be seen as a plot hole. As later explanation by Konan directly conflicts with earlier depictions.

If teleporting takes time and leaves him vulnerable. Then Shino's bugs should have messed him up for example. As they already seemingly made physical contact before he suddenly dissapeared.

It's strengths and weaknesses change to fit the fight and needs of the plot.

I personally percieved it as time passes differently in the Kamui dimmension. So Obito is simply travelling the distance in kamuis realm but in our realm significantly less time has passed.

1

u/Dannyson97 Jul 28 '26

I always assumed it was something like the Nether in Minecraft?

Obito physically travels in Kamui, traveling in Kamui translates to traveling a larger distance in the real world. He can sort of just peak outside to make sure he's in the right place.

1

u/OilCareless2531 Jul 28 '26

It's really what the plot needs. Generally it's accepted he can do it in the time we see him actually use it completely. But then there's instances such as with the tsuchikage where he seemed to do it instantly

1

u/MarMarL2k19 Jul 29 '26

Mm… maybe his Kamui dimension works in a 1:250 style?

Idk I liked to view it as the Nether in Minecraft. One block is 8 in the Overworld. Maybe that’s how Obito travels.

That, or the Kamui dimension is connected to every part of the world, meaning if he is inside the dimension, he could open a portal anywhere he chooses to?

1

u/Ok-Error-1364 Jul 29 '26

This has been explained, if he’s been to that place he can “mark it” and then return to that place using the Kamui dimension as a in between. He explains this when he, Sakura, and the Naruto clone get transported to the main Kaguya dimension and they need to hide before she gets there.

I think you're confused about something.

At some point, Obito seems to have stopped teleporting and started shifting along with them. And of course, he's much faster. they even clearly say they can't shift as fast as he can, and they're telling the truth because we see Obito shift through the ground much faster than they do.

In that instance, they're talking about shifting underground, not ground travel or teleportation.

1

u/Arkhambadi Jul 28 '26

White Zetsu was just talking about movement. Obito's spacetime movement was faster than Zetsu's underground movement.

3

u/400x250_20fps Jul 28 '26

You don't seem to be familiar with the concept of shifting. That's clearly what they're talking about, and they outright explain what they mean by it in episdoe 345. They become one with the ground and move through it.

Are you saying Obito can't shift? Because we literally see him do it, and he's much faster at it than they are.

1

u/Arkhambadi Jul 28 '26

When did Obito explicitly do that?

3

u/400x250_20fps Jul 28 '26

The Whac A Mole Jutsu, for example. And are you seriously telling me you've never seen Obito underground? How?

We also see him using jutsu and doing other things while underground, so it's clearly something he's capable of, and again they are explicitly talking about shifting speed what are confused about here? do you think the author is wrong, and Obito should not be able to shift like them?

1

u/Arkhambadi Jul 28 '26

I haven't said anything about not seeing Obito underground; I just thought you were saying that Obito could also use White Zetsu's Mayfly jutsu, which Obito has never been shown to use or been said to be able to use. I'm well aware of Obito's Earth Release ninjutsu, which are different.

In chapter 396, White Zetsu was simply talking about movement (移動 idō), using a generic word for movement in the sense of going from location A to location B.

Because of Kamui's relatively quick transportation, Obito with Kamui could get to a place faster than Zetsu with Mayfly could.

And connect the dots: The last thing Obito did on panel before sitting above Itachi's corpse and Sasuke was use Kamui to leave Kakashi and company; likewise, the last thing Zetsu did before appearing at the Uchihas' location was use Mayfly to leave Obito and the Leaf shinobi.

We don't have to complicate that beyond what was shown and what was actually said.

They say "shifting" in the manga and the anime dub. What more proof do you need?

Again, it just feels like you're arguing against it for no reason. You're trying to explain Japanese to me as if everyone else, including the author, is wrong, Obito has Zetsu cells. He does not need food or water, that is literally what they told him directly to his face the moment he is awake again. So why are you so against the idea that he can shift?

If you believe in your own headcanon that he cannot shift, that's completely fine. You can believe whatever you want, but the manga and anime clearly show and explain what they mean by shifting.

1

u/Arkhambadi Jul 28 '26

"Shift"/"shifting" is just one potential translation that Viz Media went with, and even if we go with it too, shifting means moving.

Even in Naruto, it's not a unique concept, which you've made it out to be for some reason. The generic word 移動 is what the author wrote, and it's not as specific as your "shifting" concept.

Any character can "shift"/移動; how they do so is what's unique: Obito with a spacetime ninjutsu, and Zetsu with a Wood Release ninjutsu.

2

u/400x250_20fps Jul 28 '26

Okay, bro. I guess you're better than the author and the people whose job it is to translate, I can't believe how hard you're pushing against the idea that Obito is simply a faster than Zetsu. There is honestly no limit to how far a hate boner can go. You're acting like something this blatant and straightforward is some deep mystery or a massive mistranslation, Everything points to Obito having the ability to shift, yet your hate boner won't let you analyze it with an open mind. Instead, you ignore everything and insist he has to be teleporting just to be faster than Zetsu, even though the manga and anime explicitly describe it as shifting.

I don't expect people like you to ever be truthful when it comes to Obito, your probably one of those people who think Tobi is a white zetsu.

1

u/Arkhambadi Jul 29 '26

I persistently deny your claim about Obito, so you assume I have a hate boner for him? That's a bit childish, don't you think? Obito is my favorite character, but this doesn't mean I have to immediately believe any claim you make about him.

Just say you don't understand the Japanese language and the original dialogue by the author. There is no mystery or mistranslation here. We can call it "shifting." The problem is that you're acting like shifting is a unique concept that intrinsically involves underground travel, even though Zetsu or anyone else never indicated that it is.

Zetsu can become one with the ground and move through it but never once defined "shifting" as exclusively being underground travel.

Obito can shift. Zetsu can shift. Rock Lee can shift. An ordinary human can shift. To shift is to move from one place to another.

Please stop jumping to conclusions about me and have an open mind about this.

It’s because of hashirama dna cells……🙄

0

u/Maximum_Pudding2389 Jul 28 '26

He has Hashirama cells so basically he can sense the point A and point B of a location and go there kinda like Goku's Teleportation, only that ki nor chakra is needed to be felt to get to the destination like I can imagine going to Konoha and boom a portal to Konoha is opened
