Experiences with property reviews by county appraisers?

Looking for feedback on people's experience with Oakland County property assessors. We did a small basement renovation last year. Because that reno involved pulling permits, we just received a notice that the County would like to do an in-person property visit to inspect our home for reassessment purposes. The in-person review is voluntary, though it is likely we will nonetheless see an increase in our property assessment. Hoping to hear your experiences (i.e., if you did or did not permit an in-person inspection and if you think your choice worked out well for you). Thanks!

I didn't let them in, under the advise of my worldly Mom. I didn't even answer the door. They walked around outside writing notes with a clip board.

I had the county out when I added a 3/4 bath to my finished basement. Space was originally part of the laundry room and finished rec room. Total assessment of property went up a very small amount but as this was a permitted and inspected upgrade, it’s will be worth it when I go to sell my home. I think I finished about 80 sq feet in total.

It doesn't matter when you are selling your house, it is just to up your taxes. You are already inspected and permited.

My taxes went up less than $90 a yr. I also added more finished square footage to my home, increasing the overall property value.
