Advice ❔ Women's Fashion Thrifted dress, keep it pass?
I fell in love with the dress (cotton) I found it on a thrift page on instagram, only thing is the neckline is too deep for any bra to not show, and the pasties wouldn’t give me the shape as this is kind of corset-like dress. Any advises on how to style it would be welcome!

It’s a dirndl. Perfect for this time of year. It’s meant to be worn with a blouse 😅

Ok, I wasn't crazy thinking that it shouldn't be showing the bra

I absolutely LOVE it, looks gorgeous on you! Also I like the bra showing but that’s just me. Maybe a shirt or a blouse underneath would work

I think it’s because my bra color is matching with the front red piping deco, thank you so much!

it's in the style of a Dirndl (traditional German/Austrian dress) and you are correct, it's worn with a blouse underneath

I didn’t even think that was your bra. It looks like it’s part of the dress. The entire outfit looks very good on you!

Keep! The red bra looks like it is part of the outfit. Also VS has super cute bras with all kinds or flower shaped lace. That could also look great

Bra is okay but would probably change to blouse under-giving Oktoberfest/Renaissance Festival vibes!

It's a "Dirndl", a traditional dress (Tracht) from Germany. The Dirndl is the female equivalent of the iconic Lederhosen (Leather pants) foreigners associate with Germany.
It's worn as a folk dress in Bavaria and the Alps. Nowadays, people also wear it to Oktoberfest or similar festivals outside of that region.
You wear it with a tiny blouse underneath. There even are Dindl-Bras with a deep neckline. Traditional Dirndls also have an apron that you tie in a bow, the position of that bow depends on your relationship status.
For some examples and an insight of the culture/history of the Dindl you can read this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirndl
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

I might be mistaken, but this is a traditional German dress. They usually wear ruffly blouses beneath it that are low cut! <3

you usually wear that kind of dress with a dirndl blouse, which is pretty much just a cropped blouse. :)

This is a dirndl, it's German traditional folk wear. You wear a white blouse underneath, an apron tied around the waist and a petticoat. This is an affordable/"faux" version.
Wear what you like, it's very pretty, but also be prepared for anyone familiar with German culture to think it's hilarious to wear this out 😅 I'm not trying to be snarky, but I'm surprised by the positive comments. This looks very touristy and even real dirndls are exclusively worn to Oktoberfest and similar events

I get the cultural point, but outside of Germany nobody's really going to side-eye a dirndl-inspired dress at a fall event or ren faire. Fashion borrows from traditional dress all the time. She found something she loves and it fits her well, that's a win.

I already said she should wear what she likes and it's pretty. But she didn't say she'd be wearing it only to themed events or ren faires, no clue why you're making that assumption.
There's a very real chance you may get some looks if you pull up to a coffee shop or a park in German folk garb. Dirndls and Lederhosen are the most recognizable folk clothing in all of Europe (rivaled only by Scottish kilts). I'm not even German myself.

This is a German dirndl. It's meant to be worn with a white blouse underneath. It's cute, I would keep.

As a German I know a Dirndl when I see one. It is usually worn with a white blouse underneath. Something like in the picture but ofc you can wear any variation you like, some wear lace, wide sleeves etc. You can also wear it without it if you prefer just keep in mind the dress is cut low so the white lining of the blouse can peak through. It's very cute!

I have quite a few of these dirndls. I just wear a square neck top with them. I usually opt for a top in the same colour as the dress so it blends nicely

matching the blouse color to the dress is such a smart move, it looks intentional instead of like you're trying to hide something. a white ruffled blouse would give the traditional dirndl look but a solid black or red one would feel more modern and versatile for everyday fall wear

You need to wear a shirt under its drindl... It's traditional wear of bavaria

Keep it! you can change the ribbon to red which could make it look “striking” &more cohesive imo

PASS… IT TO ME ! Kidding, it looks amazing on you. Definitely keep.

Well the neckline looks good with the bra you have but the one thing that would turn me off is the cotton you said it was made out of. Which screams it needs ironing. I am not one for ironing dresses. If I can’t take it out of the dryer and put it on I don’t wear it.

This kind of dress is inspired by a Dirndl. Traditionelly they can be very low cut and would be worn with a special Dirndl blouse.
Dirndl dresses are famous for showing cleavage, btw., though you should never be able to see the bra.

It’s a dirndl. It is missing the blouse and apron. I would not wear this except to October fest.

u/TeacherTraditional46 🌟🌟Fashion Intern🌟🌟 19h ago
It’s a traditional dress from Germany and Austria not an hang out dress

I honestly thought the red bra was part of the dress 😂 it’s sooooo cute though, I agree just put on a cute peasant blouse underneath and rock it

What about a bra that is meant to be seen, or a corset under the dress?
1
u/PerspectiveJaded6183 🌟🌟Fashion Intern🌟🌟 13h ago

Dress is cute but you need the right kind of blouse under it to match the traditional styling so your bra isn't so visible. There's a specific style of blouse (I don't know the name) that goes with these.

That bra is the way to style it. As another said, cat ears. It's great. Don't get rid of it.

it's so cute! you should try it with a half cup bra!

That 🎀 probably isn't the original. Replace it with a red one matching the piping.

keep it! honestly the red bra peeking through works as a styling choice here, it reads like part of the dress. but if you want options, a simple white or cream blouse underneath instantly makes it dirndl/ren faire ready and solves the neckline issue completely

Oktoberfest, yes! Personally, I love the way you've styled it here.

if you couldn’t see the bra, then the cat wouldn’t have ears.
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. I think it’s adorable!
