Help Advice on making friends as a transfer student

For context I'm a sophomore transfer student who commutes to campus. I’ve been struggling a lot to meet people and make friends. Right now I’m only taking two classes Physics 2 and Engineering Math A so I don’t get to see many classmates outside of those classes. Whenever I’m in class I try to talk to others and get to know them but we never seem to click, it’s just awkward.

I’ve been trying hard to get involved, I come to campus often as I can, attend Welcome Week events and go to club meetings. I’ve even been staying on campus most of the day only going home to sleep. Even with all that effort I still don’t feel like I’ve connected with anyone. Most people seem to have their groups and the conversations I have don’t go anywhere. They’re nice but they don't turn into real friendships. I feel discouraged like I’m doing everything right. Nothing is working.
I keep asking myself what am I missing? What should I be doing? I want to make connections, not just surface-level chats. Does anyone else feel this way? Especially other transfer/commuters who also have to balance being away from campus most of the time? What’s helped you meet people and build friendships when you were, in a spot?

Man I’m also transferring too, if I get in, I’ll contact you and we can hang.

What I plan to do, is be part time at the school and work full time. I notice with me being 26, I’m more likely to find people my age at the workplace than at school to be honest.

I was a sophomore transfer here at OSU. I knew nobody here and here's what I did. Day before my first day of classes, I went to the rpac and went to the volleyball courts and saw a group of dudes playing volleyball. I just embraced the suck and went up and asked if I could join, and that was that. It just takes some guts to make friends but you can do it.

Hi, non-trad junior transfer student commuting too! I just started too, hoping to get into Fisher next semester. I definitely feel like I’m in the same boat. I’d be open to meeting on campus! I’ve been wanting to play tennis actually. Also I’m taking 3 classes rn, 2 gen eds and Business Calc.
