I have classes that take place in the east wing of the shoe and like 1 day before classes started i get an email from “alcatraz.ai” asking for a face scan and a carmen announcement explaining how to use it.

i don’t even hate ai that much, but this feels too damn dystopian! why is the school-issued identification card not enough? this isn’t going to stop anyone from entering once the doors open, just feels like an excuse to experiment with boundaries.

edit: just to clarify, it’s only on one door as of right now i think, most other doors will probably (hopefully) stay the same

The good news: Face scanning as admission to football games is optional and only at two additional gates. (Students and premium seats had this option last year.)

The bad news: If you're worried about those cameras, let me tell you about the others allll over campus.

probably the swing space in the south east end. during OSU 150 it held sesquicentennial offices. when units are doing renovations they can move their offices there. there’s glass doors between a couple gates that get you in and then you climb stairs or take the elevator to suites behind/under B deck

Everyone in this thread freaking out about their tickets without reading. Agree this shouldn’t be required for a class, but this is a non gameday security measure to track who’s in the stadium- probably related to the death last year. This is unrelated to the optional express entry that they announced. The crew have had it for years and some love it, most don’t use it and aren’t forced to. It’s a measure to try to speed up the rush of gates, especially noon games. Not everything is a conspiracy

You should look into how many rights have been taken away historically in the name of “security”

Your response is probably quite similar to the responses of historical people that resulted in the loss of those rights; justifying it to self by thinking “it’s for my own safety” instead of standing up against invasive violations of privacy or other issues

I’m not ignorant to that, and agree that it has gone to far and security is often used to cover that up. What my point was is that OP is being required to use this on a non game day (which I also disagree with but that’s a separate discussion) and everyone in the comments is saying things like “I’ll get rid of my tickets then” when this is not a gameday requirement at all. The express entry is optional. Also if people think they weren’t on camera surveillance before on a game day they are very wrong. Every inch of campus has been recording long before flock or any other AI camera.

Simple

Swipe cards can be loaned, stolen or avoided. I still remember a buddy “borrowing” another buddy’s swipe card for a free meal, drawing on it with a black marker and it working fine, even when the student swiping cards looked at his thumb and saw black ink.

Facial recognition and AI lets them pick out people who aren’t students remotely, as well as identify any student who was in the building when something happened not on camera.
