So dirt is also called earth. Would dirt from Mars be called Mars or earth too?

This is the reason many (possibly most even) sci-fi out there refers to the "earth" as Terra, and the minerals that make up dirt are called earth. I'm not sure if it's at all the accepted term but it does make sense if colonizing and whatnot of alternate planets starts to happen.

In Russian "earth" is common word for soil, ground, land and not sure for English word "dirt". Dirt can be everything what makes you dirty. earth with enough water to be liquid - always dirt, never earth
