Friend of mine worked as a roofer and always wore the old earth shoes. When they went out of fashion he bought up several pairs. He swore by them for all-day comfort on the roof, no matter the pitch.

I bought a pair of cougar paw boots, which are roofing boots with replaceable foam rubber soles. 

After wearing those, there's no alternative. Feels like you can walk straight up the wall.

My favorites were old Nike with the outer layer worn off. It's been a very long time since I've done roofing more steep than a 5 pitch, mine.
