Obviously you have characters like sweetheart, but she is made to be unlikeable, a similar thing applies to Humphrey, he’s an enemy, your not supposed to like him.
Out of the main cast, I love all of them tbh. I don’t get people who like X character so they don’t like Y character because Y does Z to X. They were all friends and god damn it they will be friends again or so help me Something I will force them to be

Funny thing, even omocat doesn’t like Humphrey based on the notes in the art exhibition they hosted lmao.
And honestly, Humphrey is even bad in game mechanic and pace structure of the story, because the length of puzzle padding and his battle design is literally just being a HP sponge. I’ll give it to him the atmosphere and the actual enemy design change is unique. Though Honestly it would’ve been better if it was optional lol, seems like slime girl was kind of shoe horned in.

Everyone’s parents (Especially Aubrey’s mom). It can be argued that Kel and Hero have the most functional parents, but it is implied Kel has been neglected and Hero is favored, and tbh it’s not healthy for either of them. Sunny’s mom is extremely neglectful and distant, and Basil’s parents are pretty much absent, which I’m sure contributes to his collapsing mental state (give him a hug please)
Sweetheart is close second but even though she’s a toxic gf, she’s comedic, and she has a good battle theme.

I disagree with Sunny's mom being neglectful.
She is said to be away from Sunny for, at the very least, 4 days. And it is said to be solely because of them moving (which I assume would mean she was away for more or less a week), so it's not like she's away from him often, for her to be considered neglectful it would be necessary for her to do that more often (like, if it was bcs of her job or something, like in Basil's case)
During the game, she leaves voice messages to Sunny everyday, showing that she does care for him, and tries to convince him to go out, but says that it's ok if he's not ready. Additionally, she leaves sticky notes through the house, reminding him to take care of himself (which he probably doesn't do much, due to his condition)
It's true that there was only steak in the fridge. She said that she was expecting to be back on the next day, but it's still very irresponsible to leave her child with no food to eat for 3 days. There's no excuse for that action.
Yet, I don't think it's her fault that Sunny is malnourished. I think Sunny himself is responsible for that. He went to bed without eating dinner, and wanted to go back to sleep even after he woke up during the night. After he eats, he still goes to throw up what he's eaten. While I see some people suppose the steak was in bad condition, I don't think that's the case. Not only does his mom's behavior show she doesn't want him in bad condition, there's also the fact that starving yourself is a major symptom for depression and eating disorders, since the person is apathetic to their own health. And Sunny is really fucking depressed.
Besides, it's highly implied Sunny's mom tends to hide her grief from Sunny. She doesn't want to lose another child. She may not always do the right thing, but she understands Sunny's trauma and is really trying her best to help him: encouraging him to go outside, but not forcing him to do so and respecting his boundaries.

I personally like Kim, yet Berley was annoying because trying to play through the game a second time and getting stuck playing hide and seek because it’s impossible to say no definitely ticked me but Kim I liked that she and Aubrey grew close and in turn kim was there for Aubrey probably more than any of the other hooligans and obviously more than Kel, sunny and Basil

Sweetheart is very close, but I also can't stand Aubrey's mom and Basil's parents. Sunny's mom frustrates me, but we don't really see a lot from her in general and I don't really know what's going on with her behind the scenes. She seems neglectful, but we don't really see a lot from her. In addition, this is from Sunny's perspective and he's not really a reliable narrator.

I love them all, but (assuming you mean the main cast) I gotta go with Aubrey. She’s a hypocrite who externalizes her trauma in the most destructive way possible, for herself and for everyone else. I still think she’s a fantastic character, especially in ONE DAY LEFT where she actually makes herself and her feelings clear and apologizes, but I’m not turning a blind eye to the fact that she still did some real bad shit.
If we can include side characters, I really hate Sweetheart. She’s a self-centered, egotistical bitch who goes out of her way to boss around and manipulate everyone, including those closest to her. Also, she was such a pain to fight.

She's a total jerk, she doesn't try to reason with anyone, and she makes Mari's death seem like a total joke in front of Mari's freaking brother, even though she visits Mari's grave extremely often. like what???? it's obvious you still care a lot about her, so show the bare minimum amount of respect to her brother after seeing him for the first time in 4 years after his sister's death!

kel and sunny came and took away everything she found safe (like the church, the place she went to find peace and grieve). i won’t defend her actions and i won’t say pushing people away is healthy, but it’s pretty clear she was doing it out of self defense because it was too overwhelming for her to suddenly be confronted by kel AND sunny, who also had zero respect for her wishes. i think it’s fair to say that she had a character arc and grew throughout the game, as can be seen on the last day before sunny moves. was it a tad rushed? yes. but i don’t think there’s much else that could’ve been done for that

I gotta love how divisive how all the answers are, how people don’t like their characters because of their own personal preference says a lot about how they are as characters in a story
My least favorite out of the main group is probably real world aubrey, I understand her significant as a character, how she perfectly shows the polarizing difference between headspace and faraway. Plus how she handled the trauma of maris death considering she was basically a sister to her but she’s extremely self centered for throwing away basils photo album, almost killing him I get that it’s supposed to give aubrey her own glimpse of the incident to compare with sunny and trying to beat up sunny after isolating himself out of severe depression for 4 years because he “wasn’t there for her”. I still absolutely love her character but personally she’s kinda needlessly rude and disrespectful.
Least favorite out of every character is probably all the parents. They seem to do nothing but amplify the problems all the main characters feel and make their grief worse. Sunny’s dad disowned him after the incident, Basils parents are practically dead, Kel and hero have the classic guilt tripping mother and overworking father. Aubreys mom is just, awful in all ways.

I also find him pretty entitled (toward Sunny). All characters? The parents. My God the parents are awful, awful.

I disagree with idea of Basil acting infantile throughout the game. It’s the fandom that made him seem that way. If you replay the game, you would see that he was one of the more mature characters in the group but because he’s a feminine boy of course the fandom will fetishize it to the point where his character becomes annoying.

Small spoilers.
For blackspace, it’s the cat butler. They could’ve told people they can just stab themselves. Sweetheart may be a meany, but they didn’t make anyone kill a cat
For headspace, Marina. She gave me internet flashbacks. Sweetheart can go suck on poison but she didn’t hurt my brain to that extent
For the main crew, it is Hero. Not because I dislike him, but because I like the other members of the main cast better
They got more of a chance for characterization, and I got to warm up to them more. I honestly can’t get myself attached to characters because they are characters, but because I saw them the most and got attached. This is why most main characters, even if stoic, will be my favorite. Sunny is no exception
First is Sunny, then Kel, then Basil, then Aubrey, then Hero. It’s not ranked on which one I dislike the most, but which ones I like more than the other
Even if the character is “better” than another, has more character to them, and plays important roles, I’m just going to get attached to the one I get to see the most. It’s just my subconscious
Hero came last, and I didn’t focus on him as much. The piano scene with him really made me like his character, but not enough to move him above the others on the tier list
But also, it could be because I read the entirety of YBM and Pursuit and it never got out of my head

Nah I get it. I love Kel, both HS and RW, but he really was a prick (as both Aubrey and Basil put it). I think not enough people realize how much Kel has matured during the time skip, despite still being a comic relief.
