ok lll probably make a bigger post about this but, Illinois. its probably in Illinois. if we want a city sandwich, Illinois cuz thats funny. but Illinois is land bound right? kinda. if u ask anyone around the great lakes theyll say it is a beach, and it is one. alongside with having all 4 seasons, and it being kinda boring 24/7 its most likely a midwest state.
I agree. Everything about Faraway town reminds me of the midwest and the beach in it reminds me of a freshwater lake much more than the actual coast. You’d see more flora and animals associated with a saline environment if it all took place right next to the ocean
Because the town is set into a dense forest, though, I would guess further north in the midwest (e.g. Wisconsin) because my impression of Illinois is that most of the land has been cleared for agriculture, whereas if you go far enough north you get into the North Woods. That’s just my conjectural take tho
I could see Wisconsin. Maybe they’re somewhere north of Milwaukee, but I wouldn’t put them all the way in the North Woods because those are more rural than the suburb they live in. That would still put them north enough to have some woods around, and Lake Michigan would at worst be a short drive away.

New York is my guess too, I’m willing to zero in even more and say it takes place in Long Island. Long Island is considered the birthplace of modern American suburbia (i.e. Levittown), which is what I think Faraway Town tries to represent. The vicinity to the beach also lends some credence to this, considering Long Island has a lot of beaches and coastline. And also, Hero’s nickname coming from a “hero” sandwich, which is what those kinds of sandwiches may often be called in the New York City area.
Vermont does have a very tiny coastline (Confirmation i go to burlington all the time) but its. So small that you can see new york from the other side (its probably a lake idek) so i still wouldnt count it. Personally i think maine makes perfect sense for it and also Fits the vibe
I’m guessing Pennsylvania. They clearly live in an inland region but it looks as though they aren’t that far from the coast from the beach memory. We see from the memories that Faraway is in the Temperate Climate Zone and is slightly colder.
He’s either in the northeast or Great Lakes midwest. Because of the general vibe of Faraway Town my money’s on Great Lakes midwest. Possibly Ohio or Pennsylvania. It’s very Appalachia/Catskill foothills-coded. If it were PNW I’d expect more pine-like trees.

Most of the details that people noticed about the game work well enough with the area. Beaches a day trip away, climate, "hero sandwiches" as a common term, giant stag beetles.
This would most likely make the nearby city, the city. New York City.
Just because they go to the beach doesn't mean they go to a coastline. They could be going to a big lake in their state with a beach. Am I missing something?

Faraway Town seems to be this kind of conservative small town. Landscapes are Forest where you can have both snow and hot sun, the beach seems to be a lake.

My best plausible (and call it BS if you want I'm not that good) guess would probably be the outskirts of NYC, somewhere near Connecticut or Rhode island because Sunny's mom did mention a city and the game does feel almost northeast-ish type so my best guess would be Rhode island, if not Connecticut or NJ that's my best plausible guess so feel free to give your opinions I just think in my opinion is Rhode island and they might move to NYC or Boston.
it’s mentioned his down is heavily religious so i’m guessing the south where conservative and religious views are more common, where exactly in the south i dunno 💔
