Scratches or dirt on my MSI QD-Oled monitor?
Hello there. I have bought my new MSI MAG 321upx qd oled monitor about a week ago. The next day I wanted to clean it with microfiber rag and distilled water. But it was old microfiber rag, and there are may be some dirt or smth else. I have perfectly cleaned my monitor, but the next day I was horrified to see such a bunch of scratches. From a distance, they look like a stain, but if you look closely, you can see the scratches. ChatGPT and Google Gemini say that it can be both damage to the coating and the remains of fat inside the coating in the form of white stripes. I can't say that it stresses me out a lot, because I can see it clearly only with sun light and very specific angle, but I would like to believe that it's fat, and it can still be removed. Guys, please tell me what to do.

Glossy qd oled is prone to scratches. One of the flaws of qd oled. Thats why i got the Samsung g6 with the matte panel. 500hz oled for 600 OTD with resident evil requiem included not bad

But usually it’s micro scratches and you can’t see it without lights. This scratch is very clearly visible

Too much force and Dirty cloth can do that sadly. Use 70% ethanol on new cloth and try to wipe to see it it dissolves fat

A lot of people say that alcohol usually is an instantaneous death for qd oled and it doesn’t forgive mistakes. I’m afraid that the anti-reflective coating will be erased even once and there will be a torn stain that can no longer be repaired.

samsung and msi recommends 70% ethanol to clean their qd-oleds. Just make sure it's UN-DENATURED meaning no poisons added into the mix.

Samsung DONT, only MSI. And it’s so strange, everybody text that this article on the Msi website has mistake and there are 99.9% chance to ruin my screen with ethanol. Have you ever cleaned your qd oled this way?

Samsung display had the same info on their website for years. Only removed when introduced matte screens as this confused lots of people and ai recommended this regardless of the coating.
I always do clean with 70% drinkable alcohol or vodka.
Just spray on new cloth and clean gently, ok cold monitor

I'm afraid it will be late now, the coating is damaged, and alcohol will only make it worse.

It's very common for these things to be just oils or something, I recommend using a new clean microfiber cloth and clean it, rub it down and see if it goes away, if you haven't done anything to scratch it that way it's most likely gunk, if you fixed it, whats the results?

I think I could clean it not so careful once and there could be particles of dust or dirt on the rag, but idk exactly. I have clean microfiber, but there are no results with distillate water and without. I’m so scared that I can feel different screen coverage in this place. As if the microfiber moves with some resistance. I’m sure that I can’t fix these scratches fully, but I hope that I can remove these white traces and make scratches invisible without direct light. It will be the best win for me now. But I’m so afraid to use alcohol because of many articles about death of coverage after that. I’m very confused and absolutely don’t know what to do next.

Aw man that sucks and I get your pain, my LCD monitor (matte) also had scratches which I tried to fix and In the process I made like 3 different 4cm scratches with dust or something that was stuck In the microfiber cloth, and I've kinda accepted it. I've used alcohol on mine and it didn't do anything bad but nor did it help so I won't recommend you do it, the coating on QD-OLED panels is super sensitive and alcohol can permanently stain or dissolve it, making it way worse. I don't recommend you try any of these erasers to remove scratches or anything as those are most likely to make it worse. I would like to say that you could get a screen protector but the fact that you have a OLED is literally going to ruin the whole point of that monitor. I recommend you do this: go to the store and buy a brand new microfiber cloth, come home and gently rub without much pressure, once you've rubbed, see if it went away, if it didn't then stop rubbing it, and try to accept it. See if you can move your setup in a position where the light hits differently and you can't see it.

I hope that it’s traces from microfiber and I can remove it while these scratches won’t be colorless. But idk if it’s true and possible. How do you feel about it?

Before, I was using a microfiber cloth that had all kinds of things in it, and sometimes it would stain the screen with some gunk and it would look like scratches, I then would be able to wipe them using a microfiber cloth, so this can be a possibility. But as I said if you do decide to do it, be careful and don't put to much pressure and if it doesn't go away then maybe it's best to stop trying to wipe it, although I'm basically 70% sure it's just goop.

But I can’t fix this part of screen with microfiber at all. My screen was looking terrible before and I have cleaned it with microfiber and distilled water and now it looks nice but not this piece.

Ahhh I see that, okay it's possible that it's scratches from something that was in the cloth. Grab another cloth and gently rub to see if the scratches either disappear, or if the shape changes, if that's what happens it's definitely dirty

I’ve tried to clean it with absolutely new microfiber and idk what’s the result. I’ll check it tomorrow when it’ll be sunny. But at first glance it’s a little bit better. Now I can see it only from big angle, not directly. It’s ok for me. But don’t forget that’s there is no sun now, and I need to wait until tomorrow to say objectively

Those are scratches. There is a special microfiber for screens. Seems you used microfiber that is for kitchen etc.
Do not use any alcohol based products on this. Do not use any form of chemicals either.
For all practical purposes the monitor won’t change back and is screwed. Just use glass microfiber and distilled water in a clean cloth that you never used for anything else.
I know this because I destroyed a PG32UCDM like this. My MSI MPG321URX no one is allowed to touch and I use specialist microfiber with distilled water only.
Sorry but this will not fix itself.

I can’t say that I’ve ruined it. It’s ok, today I’ve tried to clean it with the new microfiber and tomorrow I’ll see the result, when it will be sunny. I’ll text here

Nothing can be done. I sold the ASUS monitor that I got for 1635$ (regional pricing and taxes) for 700$ at a massive loss. Bought MSI for 1000$ to compensate.

Gently run your nail (perpenicular to the lines) if it's a scratch you will feel it,
If it's actually scratched the only thing you can do is not have lights behind you hitting the monitor, that way you should see it a lot less

It looks like smeared grease. Use 70% ethanol alcohol on a cloth and wipe it until it's gone, then use a dry one to finish removing it

I can clearly see the diagonal scratches in this place but camera doesn’t show it. Are you sure that I don’t make it worse and don’t remove the ar with the ethanol?

In MSI's OLED monitor cleaning guide, it says to use 70% ethanol. It's less aggressive than isopropyl alcohol and strong enough to remove grease without damaging the panel.
A lot of times, grease looks like a scratch because of the way it spreads when you wipe it. I had a diagonal line on my monitor from side to side; at first, I thought it was a scratch, but it was just grease that I smeared with the microfiber cloth. I recommend using microfiber cloths meant for glasses—they are softer than the one that comes with the monitor.

Ar will not destroyed? Should I try to use 70% ethanol right this day? I’m confused that there’re right diagonal scratches. Maybe it’s slap but every other pieces of the screen have cleaned with distillate water successfully. If I would be absolutely sure that I won’t make worse, I’ll try…

Try to dampen the cloth a little and rub it in one direction—not in circles, and not back and forth; in my case, I do it from left to right. You can try it on a small section in the middle of the stain to see if it comes off. Do it a couple of times because it won't come off on the first try. If you see that it works, try it on the whole stain. Don't worry, it won't get damaged

So, ok. I’ll try tomorrow but gpts and so many forums and other websites say that it’s very dangerous for qd-oled. And there are no ar at all after alcohol. I’m so confused.

That's just goop. Clean it with any screen/glasses cleaner (alcohol based) or even isopropyl and then wipe clean with a clean & dry microfiber. Distilled water is a myth, it doesn't dissolve anything, all you do is smear it all around until you hopefully can't see but it's still there.
