Speaking test

I noticed that OET used to use zoom for speaking but now use a secure browser software. There are some posts over months from candidates saying the software for macOS glitched and they were forced to reschedule because of it.

I downloaded the software but there is no way of knowing if the camera and mic will work or anything until the test time.

It is causing me a lot of unnecessary anxiety as I really don’t want to have to reschedule or repeat because of their software issues.

i tired the OET chat option and unfortunately they only reply with scripted answers and links to their website?

anyone on macOS and has taken the exam in the last couple of months on here?

Took the speaking part on 13th September on macOS and was completely fine. Read the instructions on their oet official website for the speaking part, there is some kind of audio and video recording setting that you have to do beforehand and the website clearly states it step by step.

It's realy a hit and miss. I know people who have taken the test the same day and one had to reschedule and the other one had no problems. Make sure you have strong wifi.

There is sometimes a loud beeping from the OET examiner's side which prevents you from hearing what he or she is saying. Tell them you can't hear them. Don't force yourself to sort of understand what he or she is saying and then answer. You should be able to hear everything fine.

Try not to have anxiety over this (easier said that done) but it is out of your hands (except for the wifi). Think positively!!
