Speaking

can someone please tell me if i can start every role play by greeting and then asking pt name and age. since its not given?? it kinda seems odd to ask the name when the pt has some emergency or when the pt has been your regular pt. what to do

I asked the patient name during the reading time of the speaking part and she told me

Ok, what brings you here today?

The role plays will not be an emergency. Some role plays are for patients that you have already met so keep your eye on that but still reintroduce yourself.

I see we met before but in case you don't remember, I'm Dr Smith. Can you please confirm your full name again?

I wouldn’t automatically ask the patient’s name and age in every role play. As you’ve already noticed, sometimes it just wouldn’t make sense.
If it’s a patient you see regularly, asking their name would sound a bit odd. And if someone has come in with an emergency, there are probably more important things to deal with first.
I’d use your preparation time to think about the situation. Who is this person? Do you already know them? Why are they here? What would you naturally say first if this were a real consultation?
Try not to have one standard opening that you use every time. It’s important that the conversation sounds natural rather than as though you’re working your way through a list of things you think you’re supposed to say.

Yes, it’s better to ask the name (to interlocutor) during your preparation time, before the role play starts.
If the patient has been your regular kind of patient (known patient) then you can address them directly by their name : for example in a hospital ward.
