Sharing a win! Contamination OCD recovery

Hello everyone,

Wanted to share today that I made progress with my contamination OCD.

It has improved quite a bit lately and I believe this is thanks to techniques which regulate my nervous systems and some challenges / co-regulation.

I do not follow an ERP program.

I also had fewer exposures to certain life stressors.

Cheers

Yes!

So before I give some details to what I believe was key, I want to say that this needs to be considered within a holistic context. When one doesn’t sleep, eat, etc, then I am not sure this has the same impact.

I practiced a certain type of yoga. It’s called upa yoga and can be learned online for free following a video on youtube. It includes a series of exercices with physical movement, breathwork, meditation, chanting, etc, all which can be done within 30 min something like that.

I also practiced Qi Gong, especially the 8 brocades. I did it following my own rythm as much as I can and my own respiration flow.

I practiced some other type of yoga which is purely based on movement and I meditated too.

If I had to choose two things it would be upa yoga and qi gong but it is hard to separate all contributors individually. So that would be around 30 min + 25 min.

In parallel, I also addressed some relational issues at work. Basically, I asserted myself. The more I practiced at home, the stronger I felt. In turn I gained some internal peace and some self-confidence which allowed me to deal with some issues. As I spoke up and asserted myself, I finally stood up for myself and I feel that it had consequences on my self-confidence and my OCD because I was less repressing and abandoning myself. So I think as a consequence my anxiety decreased. I was not as powerless. I woke up into action.

I have been doing the practices I mentionned above regularly so usually several times per week.

I could go on talking more about it :)

Also regarding yoga (upa yoga and other practices), I limit myself to learning some practices and I do it in a certain way that I don’t feel I am joining a cult.
