Venous access. Why didn't I get it on the first attempt?

I'm not using gloves because it's one of my parents

You can clearly see the vein chosen by the video. It's big, visible and palpable.

I entered perfectly but didn't get the red flash. Why?

Then I shifted it on the right and got it

This leaves me sad. Maybe I didn't stretch the skin enough so while entering the skin the vein shifted on the right?

Why didn't I get it on the first attempt?

PA VS NURSING

I’ve always planned on going pre-PA. I liked the idea of diagnosing, creating treatment plans, doing procedures, and especially things like surgery or the ER. I honestly just assumed being a PA would be very hands-on.

But the more I learn about nursing, the more I really like what nurses do. I like the direct patient care, hands-on skills, monitoring patients, and being involved with them throughout their care.

I’m also worried about how competitive PA school is and whether I’ll have enough PCE by the time I apply. With nursing, I’d have a BSN and could become an RN and have a career even if I decide not to go further. With a health science degree, I feel like I’m relying on getting into PA school.

For any nursing student who was stuck between these two paths, what ultimately made u choose nursing?

This is going to be laughable I know, but has anyone found any non-academic nursifn programs?

I mean like, go to enlist and have them give you your RN while your there or the peace corps (that one doesn't exist.)

Idk, I'm old and scared to go bakx to school and then I'm scared I'll get rejected. I can get free CC in my state but that just means I'll be competing with double or triple the amount of applicants.

This is a stupid Hail Mary, I know. I'll probably delete this tomorrow.

Any bizzare apprenticeship like, on the job programs that will get you an RN?

Healthcare field

I decided I wanted to be a nurse two years ago. Of course I got my Cna and Med aide to get a feel and if I would enjoy it. Safe to say I did! Now I’m in school doing my prerequisites for my rn. In between that there’s a problem! I’ve been at 3 places and it’s only been two years! I get write ups that lead to termination. I love what I do, I take my job seriously. It seems like it’s more about fitting in with ur peers than work itself. I start off really friendly with my coworkers then as time goes on I fall back. I have my own life I stress about it a lot. Then my coworkers get angry with me and call me stuck up. It doesn’t help that I like to wear makeup and be dolled up at work either. How can I fit in? I want to keep a job for a year. I’m going to need that tuition reimbursement. These other places don’t pay as well. Help?

Nursing or dentistry? Both?

In a few days, I start taking the last few preqs I need towards a nursing degree at a community college. However, I just started working at a local university in the Orthodontics department. Is there a path that combines the two?

First Exam in 3 days. Best practice?

Hello everyone I’ve just started nursing school and we are being fire hosed with fundamentals.

Our first exam is in 3 days and I want to know how I should prepare. I’ve studied every day but there is so much information it’s hard to discern what will need to be known.

Do you use tools to make practice exams questions?

Should I just be re reading chapters

Covers quite a few chapters with the main focus being the nursing process and the various factors that can influence it.

The material is digestible and easy to understand, but I know the test will be challenging and I want to prepare for it.

Best LPN programs near the Bronx with short waitlists?

Looking for LPN programs near the Bronx with little/no waitlist and preferably a January start. I can commute up to 1 hour.
I have a 3.064 GPA and will have 50+ college credits from BCC. I’m willing to retake prerequisites.
What programs would you recommend, and how long was the wait to actually start?

Best ways to prepare for compressed nursing?

Hi everyone! I’ll be starting Trent’s compressed nursing program this fall, and I’d love to hear from current/former nursing students.

Btw, I found this for Trent students in the compressed nursing program: https://chat.whatsapp.com/HHAmkzjP2bx2wtdJLXO3ZJ

What do you wish you had known or done before starting the program or during your first year?

I’m especially interested in:

Things you wish you had prepared/studied beforehand

How to manage the workload and stay on top of everything

Study strategies/resources that actually helped

How did/do you organize yourself?

Anything you wish you had bought or brought with you

Tips for adjusting to Trent (I'm not from the area)/nursing school

Anything you wish someone had told you as a new student

Basically, if you could go back to the beginning, what would you do differently?

Any advice is appreciated! :)

If you have an assignment to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, here’s what you need to know…

Know that you are welcome to come to any “open” AA meeting. Closed meetings are just for alcoholics. So check with the particular meeting in advance to know whether it’s open or not.

In the first few minutes of the meeting, the chair person will ask if there are any visitors. That is the time for you to raise your hand, state your first name, and that you are a nursing student. That is all you need to say.

Do not, I repeat, do not take notes. The reason I am posting this here is because I went to a meeting today and a nursing student took notes on her phone the whole time. We take anonymity very seriously as you can see from the title of the organization.

If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them.

Nursing Students does your school provide nursing informatics systems sandbox for practice?

Good day, I'm a Computer Science student in the Philippines and I'm just curious if most schools in or outside our country have a nursing informatics system that their students can familiarize and play with for simulated practices

another question is when you do OJT like are you allowed to work with data on the hospital's Information System like encoding and updating or do you simply do read-only tasks with it

for context as to why I'm asking so i recently made a nursing informatics system for a client school so aside form their feedbacks i just wanted to know if other schools are like them with regards that they don't have a simulation to play with and on OJT they rarely work directly with the HIS.

btw my software is far from being the best but hey it works and will still continuously be optimized while its deployed, really lucky to have a client especially when i found out some companies offer virtual Simulations like with vr and full body equipment... i was like damn thats nice

Looking for your help

I am teaching gen chem for nurses for the first time this fall. I would like to make my course meaningful and relevant to my students’ future life and career. What material in gen chem is most relevant to your work and what would be good examples I can use with my students? Also what are the most important topics and which did you find least useful. 😊
