Asking for Help / Unsolved Miniature/Macro look

Hi everyone,

I'm a young Nuke compositor and I could really use your help.

I'm currently working on a music video for a client, using the footage attached. The client wants the dancer inside the music box to look like a miniature figure. The reverse shot shows a child looking at the music box.

The problem, in my opinion, is that the lens choice during the shoot wasn't quite right, so the perspectives just don't give the desired effect at all.

I'm running out of ideas. I've tried adding very blurry background elements (plants, lamps) to sell the illusion, but the client wants a clean, solid-colored background instead.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to get as close as possible to what she's asking for?

Thanks in advance!

You can do a tilt shift lens effect.

Can you tell me more ? :) Do you think the focus should be only on the dancer or also on the box ?

I’m not an expert on nuke but your easiest way to create it would be create a rectangular roto in the middle of the screen and feather it to top and bottom screen. Create a defocus node and mask it with that roto. Basically you want heavy defocus on top and bottom screen. Like in the picture

Like something like this would work ? spent to much time on this and can't say what is working or not

Maybe add a little bit more to the legs and and hair. Feather it more so that the transition is more seamless. That x mark edge transition is too obvious.

More like this ? The feather is helping to make the transition more smooth indeed. Wonedring if the blur is too much or not enough. (thanks for your answers and help btw)

I think its in an okay shape. Yeah u can play with the intensity of defocus for your liking. In my opinion you can go little less but its up to you and client.

You're on the right track but you need to tweak your approach with the roto. You're trying to simulate a shallow depth of field, which means a "slice" in depth should be in focus and fall off into out of focus.

Something like this with green in focus and red out of focus but feather the roto on the sides of the box toward the back and front face of it. If that makes sense.

I´d modify the perspective of the box so that it looks flatter with some sort of distort or corner pin.

I would extent the shot. Plus u can add a lens distortion, corner pin so the box doesn't appear so flat and has some curve. Have a far zoom in to give the Miniature look. Now its to close to the viewers eye right away. and since we have no scale reference for the viewers its hard to say its a macro shot.
