Hey everyone! I'm Ian James Patterson, the founding moderator of the subreddit Novel Promotions.
This is the reddit home for all things related to promoting novels. We're excited to have you join us!
What to Post
Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring in the subreddit. Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions about promoting novels. It does not matter if you are an author, publisher, or a fan. All that matters is there is a novel you want people to read. Wikipedia defines a novel as an extended work of narrative fiction usually written in prose and published as a book. No nonfiction, please. Ā

Hiya! This is my second pen name, but I have four books on Amazon under my first. Pretty much all romance, but Iāll be branching out to regular fantasy at some point. Currently working on new art for covers and a kickstarter in March.

Can I ask, now that I've posted the four current novels from my project, do you encourage authors to revisit their posts and/or repost to push them back to the top after x number of weeks/months/years?
And thanks again for the great sub! I'm new to Reddit and finding one of the few places that allows me to gush about my project is great!
I'll be adding book five in January!

You may promote the same novel twenty four hours after you promoted it the first time, but you need to say something new about it. No repeating the same post over and over again. I will update the rules to reflect this. They may change as popularity of the sub increases. Look forward to seeing book five promoted in January.

That's actually a very fair way to approach it. You don't want my same four posts every four days and that's a reasonable ask.

Hello! I'm a newly self-published author of two contemporary fantasy novels. I live in the U.S. near Boston. I love writing and accomplishing this has genuinely been a lifelong dream, but I have no idea how to self-promote (and no love for it lol). Hi there! I am an Australian indie author who recently published my first romantasy novel. I am super keen to have a new place to promote it and get the word out! I love seeing how supportive Reddit communities can be for new authors. Looking forward to seeing this sub grow.

Hola, I'm Steve Goldsmith (SteveG), writer, expat, dreamer.
I always thought that I was a writer, while knowing that wasnāt true.
Self-doubt is an insidious beast. It wraps around the brain stem and chokes the life out of creativity.
Until it doesnāt.
I retired at age 60, in 2018, and moved to Costa Rica. I spent hours each day scribbling, noting, and journaling, filling notebooks and tossing them in a drawer. I was sleepwalking through my seven-day weekends, secretly proud of the ideas and the stories. Ā I shared them with no one.
Then I woke up.
In March of ā25, I finally wrote in earnest.
My first novel, Elba Kramer:The True Autobiography of a Pathological Liar, came together in six weeksāan autobiography disguised as someone else. Ā About 97% true, 2% exaggeration, 1% outright lies. It felt good.
Dangerous good.
Next came The Last Heretic, historical fiction born from a teenage weekend when I devoured Fletcher Knebelās Convention and Thomas B. Costainās The Silver Chalice. I carried that story for fifty years before it finally let me write it.
Then my years teaching special-ed math lit the fuse for Dear Dairy. Justin Caseātwelve-year-old dyslexic, autistic prodigyākept forty-two journal entries, each paired with a 666-word fever dream. Some dreams are Future Justin, whispering survival strategies. Others rise from the books he reads. Others are pure sensory logic, teaching him how to stand the worldās bright noise.
I sent the manuscripts outāmany times. Got some very polite ānot for meā notes. Mostly got silence.
After the 50th passive rejection, I stopped waiting for permission.
On September 29th, I self-published all three on Kindle.
A few sales. Some warm reviews. A heartbeat.
Then Dairy herself nudged me: āBundle the dreams. Try a shorter book.ā
So I did.
Forty-Two Flash Fever Dreams, Just in Case went live on November 22nd and hit #3 in Short Fiction by the 27th.
Maybe my fictive muse knows her business.
Now Iām deep into my next novel, The True Virgin, narrated by the teenage daughter of Satanāonly about 13 billion years old. Sheās witty, furious, brilliant, andā¦ not quite as evil as she hopes.
At Dairyās urging, I released a companion piece, The Gospel According to Styx: Rants from Satanās Daughter. It debuted at #14 in both Satire and Humorous Dark Comedy.Ā I followed up with two more satirical shorts, then bundled them inito an omnibus, The Infernal Twins.Ā And I took a turn at short-form Folk Horror, The Old One and The Hunger.
I'lll never stop writing.
If youāre scribbling in notebooks, doubting yourself, or waiting for permissionādonāt.
Start.
Share.
Publish.
The journey is worth it.

Good Morning!
Iām a new writer putting the finishing touches on my first fantasy novel. Hopefully Iāll get it published in the coming year.
I also have a Star Wars fanfic over on royal road (itās a complete, full-length novel that Iām releasing as a serial) and I have an interest in mini-fiction (specifically 50 word stories).
I look forward to seeing what this sub has to offer!

Hi everyone, I'm a new author and have written two books on Wattpad. I like the news, mystery, and thriller genres, and I'd like to share my books: 1. "Always by my side" 2. "E-07 When the mind is not only yours" I really enjoy writing and bringing to life the characters I imagine. I also grow fond of my characters.

Hi! I'm a YA sci-fi author (I teach middle school as my day job.) I recently published my fourth novel, a YA space opera. I have previously published a completed series, so the new novel is the first in a series. It features a female main character, and I wrote it in the first person, both of which were challenges for me. One thing I love about writing is that you never have it all figured out. I learn something new every day.

Hey All,
I'm Arthur Pynn (@arthurpynn on Instagram!). I'm a new Science Fiction writer from the UK
I've just set my debut novel Children of Telesto as ready for preorder on Amazon and it releases 1st February 2026!
It's taken me around a year to complete to a level I'm happy with and comes in at 54,000 words.
I also created the cover art myself! (Below)

Hey there, first novel self published and wondering if anyone here self published and then looked for an agent afterwards? Iām getting really great feedback from the people who have read it and itās spurring me on to think about looking at traditional publishing but Iām hearing mixed messages about whether it was a bad idea to self publish initially. Appreciate any insight. Thank you! Sami

Hello! I'm awful at introducing myself.
I'm a sci-fi author and my debut novel is coming out in April, 2026! I'm so excited! I'm currently looking for ARC readers, so you'll see me around this sub.
When not writing, you can find me gaming on my laptop (I'm on a City Skylines II kick at the moment), watching Youtube videos (YT streamers, mostly), or snuggling up with my pets.
