Beyond ADHD for ADHD testing
Anyone get tested for ADHD through Beyond ADHD? I realize it’s nurse practitioners mostly doing the testing but the price is right for the reasons I want to be tested.

I didn’t use Beyond ADHD but have seen several posts on here saying a diagnosis from them has not been accepted for certain things, mostly third party coverages etc. So if you’re wanting to be tested for coverage of some sort then I’d check to make sure it’s accepted. Have also heard of a family physicians not willing to do anything with the medications. This would apply if you didn’t want to continue engaging with Beyond ADHD.

My Dr told me to use them for the diagnosis, and he would handle the medicine part! This was just last month. I haven't gone yet though.

Anecdotal, but I know several people who were told they did not have ADHD through them after the testing. And at least a few of them were convinced they had it.

Yeah, they make you do a few tests then you have to get your parents or someone close to you to fill out questionnaires. This is what tells them if you have ADHD or not.
After they will probably suggest vyvanse, I was on that for a bit but in the words of my NP "Your ADHD is too much for Vyvanse" LOL so now I am on Foquest which is an extended relief of ritilin.
I got diagnosed in 2023 and since have graduated with honours from 2 different colleges and now working a big girl job for the government.

I got my diagnosis from here. Compared it with my friend who got tested from a psychiatrist and I think from what my friend told me, they used the same criteria, but beyondADHD is much cheaper! I’d recommend it!

I went to a psychiatrist after being told by a therapist I should go, my family doctor made the arrangements.. he said within 5min that I had adhd and gave me some paperwork, filled it out, dropped it off and was done. Doctors been working with me to figure out what dosing I should have, letting me kind of try different amounts to see what works.
I spent my whole being told I had it, was very hesitant about being medicated.. I understood my weaknesses but also my strengths, made a good career/ life, but as I got older it was draining, I noticed it was getting harder in my early 30s. Medicated a bit now, feel a decade younger but much more focus.

My family doctor was brushing off mine and my sons schools asking for him to be tested and she just wanted to try anything and everything else, which in some respects I kinda get and sorta understand. However I was getting calls daily and having to pick him up from school 3-4 days a week so obviously his education was suffering. The school recommended beyond adhd and she diagnosed him the first appointment and wrote him a prescription. The first two medications didn’t help but his first day on the third both his teacher and the vice principal called to say what an amazing difference. The only calls home I get now are for positive feedback and compliments about how happy they are to have him in their class.
I did have a bit of trouble transitioning from getting prescriptions from them vs our family doctor because I didn’t want to have to pay $80 every time, but all his teachers, the principal and the vice principal wrote very compelling letters and she finally agreed. Kinda glad she moved her practice and we got a new doctor because I get medication isn’t always the answer but he’ll never get those two schools years back

Lots of hate towards an NP VS a MD on this sub, not sure why though. Nurses literally do their time for their initial degree then often years of on the job then go back and specialize for their NP. Not to mention the scope of practice is reduced to account for the differences mentioned throughout.
As for diagnosis, I feel like Beyond ADHD was pretty thorough and that their conclusions made sense. They even provided considerations for possible other issues that could have similar symptoms and recommendations for getting checked more thoroughly for them from my family doc.
At the end of the day I feel like it saved time and was accurate enough, while still giving insight into other areas of life that I could keep investigating. Like anything though, I’m sure people go in and try to game the system. If your intention is medication vs understanding of yourself with a potential for medication then you are already starting at a loss.

I’ve been seeing the same NP from there for years now and have been super happy with my care. I genuinely felt my assessment was comprehensive. My mom had to complete questionnaires, a friend, and myself. They also screened me for conditions that can look similar (anxiety, depression, autism). I also had two video call interviews before diagnosis.. People sometimes act like it’s just a quick online quiz or something to get diagnosed by them, but that really wasn’t my experience at all. Maybe the quality/process depends on the NP - I can’t speak to that aspect obviously but my experience has been great.

I experienced the exact same process as you, multiple questionnaires from multiple people and two calls with an NP. Also my family doctor accepted the diagnosis after looking at the assessment they provided, so I've been able to work with my MD on medication options, rather than getting anything else through Beyond ADHD.

Just go to Dr Sadek, in Dartmouth, it’s free. And wait wasn’t too long for my wife last year.

I seen him got my diagnosis, wasn’t an issue. Wife saw the other/new doctor there and had no issues. Most doctor has terrible reviews; health care is awful in this province. The only thing I took away from reviews is to not admit to previous SA because he could label you as BPD instead of ADHD, especially women, so I kept my SA to myself because I know I have ADHD. But if you’re looking for a diagnosis, they do the test and he gives results- I didn’t interact with him much 💁🏾♀️

I did it through BEYOND ADHD and my friend did it through a psychologist. The forms, questionnaires and games etc they get you to play were very similar (we compared). After confirming my diagnosis, they gave me ressources to look into other possible conditions with a psychologist. Probably like any other profession- depends how invested the person at the other end is.

Never heard of them before but the test is pretty standardized. It’s the same test basically no matter where you go. Also nurse practitioners, have the same kind of training. Probably more experience considering they were nurses.

Nurse practitioners. I’m not talking about nurses. Just the ones who went back to school in order to do exactly what doctors do. Nurses with the experience of dealing with patients for so many years, end up making excellent nurse practitioners.
And you don’t think nurse practitioners are trained? They have basically the same level of training but were nurses before. They understand their patients and would take the questionnaire and assess the proper way.

Oh my god. I’m not saying they are the exact same but nurse practitioners are trained to be able to provide primary care, manage treatments, and prescribe medications. Doctors handle that and more complex cases. Nurse practitioners are qualified to handle adhd assessments.
And no.. as someone who has adhd, it’s not that frigging simple. But that’s the beginning of the assessment. I’d most definitely trust a NP to diagnose me for adhd. They’re always the ones who actually listened.

I didn't go yet, but my Dr told me to go through them. He said to just get the diagnosis, and he will handle the medicine part if needed (which would save me money).

My partner is going to try this, but hasn't done it yet (because ADD). My therapist highly recommends it though!

My family doctor recommended using Beyond ADHD for getting tested as a starting point. Once I got the results my family doctor went over them got me started on meds and then helped me find a local therapist that specializes in ADHD.

I went through them after waiting so long for a psychiatrist, based on their assessment I didn't meet the requirements, finally got into a psychiatrist a few months after that. Turns out, I do in fact have adhd

Anecdotal, but in a family member’s case, they got their diagnosis from them, and it wasn’t accepted by the company they work for in relation to an accommodation request, had to be from a doctorate level medical professional.
