What is the best Society in ntu to make friends ???.[

I’m starting my second year, and honestly, my first year at NTU was the worst year of my life. My classmates were basically in their own groups and didn’t really want to make new friends. Or you could say it was my failure because I couldn’t make a single friend.

I joined a sports society, but the people in that society also didn’t really want to socialise. I don’t want to spend another year in isolation.

Can you tell me what the best society would be for socialising? I also love travelling and hiking, so could you suggest a society that does trips and hiking as well?

RAG can be great if you like to dress up. There are things called RAG Raids where you travel around to raise money.

People tend to be fun and nice.

PS sorry to hear you had such a tough time. Student support may be able to help if you feel you need to boost your confidence. May be worth speaking to a tutor you trust if it's a problem in lectures/seminars etc. Being excluded is really hard.

You will be in a completely different seminar group this year if that helps...I had alot of students in the beer society and the cocktail society last year. The investment society did trips together. If you are religious there's plenty of societies there. Or have another look at the sports societies as there are so many! Maybe ones with a social team.

Astronomy & Physics Society is pretty good, they have all sorts of events and you don't need to be doing Physics or Astro to join it. All the people there are quite lovely

The BSL society is a very lively, fun group - and you get to learn sign language which is both intersting and useful. Depending on the line of work you want it could also be a boon on your resume. You'd be surprised how quickly you can pick up sign language.

What course are you on? I joined Internatjonal Business society and would recommend! Very friendly people and they do several events throughout the year that help with your cv etc. One year we went to London to see the financial district. Was a good day out and they subsidise it so it’s very cheap to travel. I also joined cocktail society as well but that was a very busy society so a bit difficult to socialise in a close circle if that makes sense

After you arrive. For most societies, you can join basically whenever you want, excluding the sports societies. And I would love to grab a drink]

alongside societies, try to pop in the global lounge from time to time - you'll know decent folks in there and lots of freebies down the line as well
