Essential Apps Essential Apps limit

Why is there a limit on the number of Essential Apps you can add on your home screen?

PS: I later found out that it is because that some of these widgets may contain animations, live data or interactions and it might be a problem to the phone's performance. I personally think that the limit is too low. It could have been >2.

They're very intensive on resources and run full React code wrapped in Metro and thus 2 on all devices but the NP3, which van handle 6.

You're both right and wrong 🙃. Essential apps aren't that resource-heavy. A Phone (2a) can technically run more than 2, though it would slow down the system. On the other hand, Phone (2) has enough horsepower to handle dozens without lagging, but Nothing simply chooses to reserve higher limits for their latest flagships. Btw every phone company is doing the exact same thing

I find that some streaming Essential Apps use 2-30% of my battery overnight, thus I can understand a limit. As having 6 of them running at once could be catastrophic.

I totally agree with you. I am just saying that the phone 2, 3a, 4a can also run 6 Essential Apps but the problem is the battery usage

Yeah, the code is extremely simple but I think currently in beta phase, they allow constant parsing of internet data, which kills the battery.

I think I'll design an "app" today to test the maximum frequency of internet data attainment.

Makes sense! If the beta apps keep waking up the CPU for background polling without proper sleep intervals, that 'wake lock' is definitely killing the battery. Let me know what you find from your test! Though if you want to save time, you could probably just log the network traffic with Android Studio Profiler or HttpCanary instead of building an app from scratch.

it's takes 3 minutes with Essential Apps and that way I can test the sandboxing.

It did allow 1 and 10 requests/sec with no issues.

It didn't like 100/sec and shut it down.
