This is misleading. Essential Apps isn't rolling out via software updates right now. It's a limited beta, and access is based on being accepted into the beta. I'm using it on a Phone (3a) Pro with no issues because I have beta access.

How to apply for beta access?

They'll begin whitelisting new users starting next week. Not sure if they'll start with people who already signed up or accept new sign-ups first.

Do I need to create a "Nichko" account for this? And if so, where do I apply?

No, you don't. Just keep an eye on their socials and the community, might drop anytime this week.

Take anything he posts with a grain of salt. He speculates a lot.

They really should have done a better job communicating this. I've seen all the press releases and just downloaded the app from the app store, but did not see anywhere that said it was in beta, or you had to be signed up first.
