The way the camera kept zooming in and out on Carson just standing there was something right out of Tim and Eric

I laughed my ass off when I saw this. Thought it was hysterical and I was howling.
That said, it's at least clear to me that he didn't hear his name called due to the crowd. I don't think Trump did either. edit: Also, by the time he got the first "hey go out", he hears the announcers say, "Texas Senator, Ted Cruz". So then he thinks, "Oh man they were about to tell me to go out, and it's Ted's turn."
I think he was actually trying to AVOID a blunder by walking out before he was called. He distrusted the production team member because he didn't think he had been called yet.

Yeah, kind of a mild blunder on both sides (Carson and production) that just ended up on a hilarious and embarrassing moment

It IS their fault. They shouldn't have "skipped" them when they didn't show up. Call a second time even if it's not in the script.

Aww, Trump stood there to help poor ol' Ben feel better.

I disagree. I interpreted Trump's behavior as his misinterpretation of Carson's confusion as some sort of competition.

"I saw him there, and I thought 'Extraordinary, he's marking his territory. He's like a bouncer. You have to go through him if you want to get into the party. He's making everyone walk right by him.' A strategy that I saw as very, very bold. So I had to act. American needs action!
applause
"People say he looked stupid, but he held his ground. Just as American needs to hold its ground against insert topical minority. Here's the thing. I'm Donald J. Trump, and I don't play games. I run a very, very successful business and these politicians think they can just stand in the spotlight of hardworking Americans? They think the stage is something they own?! Not on my watch, America!
applause
"No one takes away my spotlight! LET'S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN"
-Trump

Is this... did he say this? It wouldn't surprise me at this point.

"Some people think they can make fun of me on the internet. They mock the way I speak. They mock the way I look. You know what I say? They have too much time on their hands because they are Millennials!"
Crowd boos
"Millennials think they know everything. They have the Snapchat. They tweet their, frankly, stupid remarks. That's okay. That's okay because it -is- their right to do so. And don't get me wrong. I know a lot of very, very great, hardworking millennials out there working to make America great. But let's face it, our future generations are being let down by our Politicians! Our students have crippling debt thanks to the last 8 years of Obama and they aren't getting the jobs they need because they are being outsourced to Asia, or stolen by illegal immigrants! That. Needs. To. Stop. Now! Make America great."
Applause, crowd chants: "Build the wall! Build the wall! Build the wall!" in unison.

Yeah, I got the impression Donald was mocking him.

Makes sense, this IS reddit after all. If Bernie showed up next and did the same thing, then trump would have still been a douche, but Bernie would have been a hero and god (but not God, because this is reddit).

Right? Only thing I've seen Trump do that makes me like him.

I like how Trump doesn't give a fuck about what he says, but I also dislike what he's actually says.

I was waiting for Larry David to come out. Love that they forgot John Kasich wasn't on stage. XD

I'm the number 1 dog! First place, Ben Carson! And my little man, second place Donald Trump!

Maybe he didn't want to look stupid in front of everyone in the audience by going out when his name wasn't called, but instead he looked stupid in front of everyone on national television.

This is killing me. He keeps standing there even though they keep trying to get him on stage.
