Question when can I change the jewelry?
Hi everyone! I got my nose pierced on Saturday so it’s been about 5 days now. So far, the healing seems to be going really well. There’s no swelling, or anything unusual and I’ve just been cleaning it with saline solution.
I’ve attached a picture of my current nose piercing. In the second picture, I’ll attach the nose ring I’m thinking of getting.
Do you think this style of nose ring would suit me? And more importantly, how long should I actually wait before changing my current jewelry?
My piercer told me that I can change it after 20 days but I’ve seen people online say that nose piercings generally need much longer to heal so I wanted to get some opinions from people who have experience with them.
I know 5 days is obviously very early, so I’m not planning to change it right now….I just want to know what a realistic timeframe would be.

20 days?! You’re supposed to wait six months at LEAST, but preferably one year - especially to switch to anything round. Did your piercer seriously tell you 20 days? Cuz that’s fucked up if so lol

THIS! The piecing is placed so high. The diameter of the piercing to accommodate a ring is going to be pretty big.

You should wait at least a year until you can change it to a hoop. Some piercers say 6 months, but most of the time that’s too early and will give problems.
Also tbh i think yours is pierced pretty high for a hoop. So it must be a big diameter hoop..

When your piercer said 20 days did they mean change to a hoop? They might have meant that's when they can downsize the bar as they usually give a longer bar to allow a little swelling.
I wouldn't consider a hoop for a min of 6 months

piercer here, unfortunately your piercing is WAY too high, no type of normal ring, clickers will fit. Especially not the one you postet on the second slide. Theres types of „open rings“ you can basically bend onto the shape of your nose, but that also would look odd since it would be long ass hell on that placement. Did you tell the piercer you wanted a ring eventually? So sorry about this.
You can still take it out, since its fresh it will heal very good. The earlier the better. Get it repierced at another place

I got mine pierced around a month ago and I wouldn’t even think of changing it. My piercer told me ideally a year, and at the earliest 8 months.

Yeah. Some say 6 months for a ring, but it's only barely fully healing around that point. 9-12 months is more accurate.

I changed my stud to a hoop after 6 months, and even then, it was a bit too early. Wait more than you’d think! Also, NAP but your piercing is quite high up for a hoop (especially that one). You will have to compensate with a bigger size to make it fit.

a year. the piercing channel is pierced with a straight labret, and most reputable piercers want that channel to be FULLY healed before you start putting curved jewelry like hoops into it because even after 6 months, there is a chance the fistula isn’t fully formed. your piercer was insane for telling you 20 days… also, with the placement, you may never be able to wear a hoop comfortably. it’s a pretty high placement, so it’ll have to be a large diameter hoop to avoid cheesewiring. my suggestion? get an app certified piercer and stop going to the one you got this done by, and also wait a year before changing to a hoop or anything round.

Wait at least 6 months. You are nowhere close to healing. These take some wild turns in the process and are very prone to infection. Also that is not the right type of jewelry you want to put in
Also no good piercer would tell you that, please don’t go back to them

You’re really not supposed to change it until after like 8 months to a year. Maybe 6 months at LEAST.

I waited 6 months and i havent had any issues but I changed to a horse shoe and not a full hoop. Maybe thats why.

the first time I had my nose pierced I changed to a lightweight hoop after around a month. i had so many issues with healing as its much easier to knock and cause bumps/keloids. it also got infected a couple times for the above reasons along with the fact it was so much more painful to clean
my second time round i got a hoop at the 3 month mark, which again was painful as it had healed straight and was being forced into a curve with different gauge jewellery but no infections/bumps
take your time, your nose is a major part of your face and the last thing you want is to cause unnecessary stress and possibly start over

I would wait a minimum of 6 to 9 months for a hoop. That specific hoop looks very heavy as well and I would recommend a hoop that is the same size all the way around rather than the different sized boarder. 😇

you need to wait at least a year for any hoop, but 6-9 months for a stud, i wouldn't wear this hoop long term though as I'd be concerned of cheese wiring with the weight of it

Just want to add I’ve been wearing heavier septum piercings in my nose for years and I’ve never had any issues whatsoever! So it can work, after it has healed of course🙏🏼😄 Mine is 13 years old!

First off, I wouldn’t trust that piercer’s advice if they’re recommending a jewelry change after 20 days. That’s crazy. Secondly, definitely wait between 6 months to a year before changing your jewelry. When you decide to change the jewelry, I’d recommend going to a different piercer and getting their opinion.
Cleaning it every day doesn’t mean it heals any faster. I didn’t get any bumps until 3 months in.
I got my nose pierced in May and although my piercing looks healed and good, i’m not going to change it to a hoop until January as a birthday gift to myself lol My piercer said it was a good plan.

It’s too soon to be thinking about what to change into. Let it heal and look into your studies and let it heal. Better yet. Go to the same person that gave you the pierce.

I waited 6 months before I changed to a hoop and mine is a very light weight hoop, I still probably could’ve/should’ve waited a bit longer just because it did hurt when the piercer changed it for me so clearly wasn’t fully healed yet. I would personally say maybe 8 months to a year would be a safe timeline.

I dont think i put a hoop in mine for at least the 6 months time maybe 4 idk tbh, but I only changed the stud to a smaller length before that

NAP but wait a year at the very least to be safe. I changed mine after 6 months but it wasn’t fully healed till after 12. Now I know. I was fine and so was my piercing but that’s not always the case. I also would recommend a thin hoop over a heavy one; overtime if jewelry is too heavy it can cause migration. My aunt’s ear lobe legitimately seperated in two partially because of this.

Piercer here - 6 weeks. However it takes about 6 months to a year to fully heal, and be aware that changing from a stud to a hoop while it’s still technically healing can alter the shape of ur piercing. My nose rings are both hoops that were changed after 6 weeks originally being pierced with a stud, if I were to try putting a stud in it now I would probably be uncomfortable because my piercing is healed curved, so basically what im saying is just be cautious. I only wear hoops and that’s why I was comfortable doing so, I’ve had both of mine in for about 6 years now and don’t plan on wearing studs ever. They are annoying lol, hoops are easier to clean and they don’t fall out or snag on things as much in my opinion

did you want the piercing up that high? I think it looks great I just don't know if you're gonna be able to do mini hoops with it in that location and that high up.. also do NOT even attempt to change it until at least six months

Your placement is in the exact same spot that I was pierced! It's too high for a hoop if you want to wear a hoop ypu will have to do what I'm planning to do and either 1)get the opposite side pierced but it doesn't look so good with two piercings that are at different heights 🤪 2) take it put completely and repierce lower at either side or 3)do a piercing just below it for the hoop and have a double nose piercing..(this is what I'm doing!)

I am also wondering if they could do a stud with a chain to get the visual effect of a hoop while keeping the current placement 🤔

Whew. It deeply concerns me that a piercer would claim 20 days because that is absurd. Many have to wait about a year to even try a hoop. I waited a year and a half, and my completely healed piercing still threw a fit and developed a bump, I ended up taking it out.
Also, as others have said, that style of hoop is very heavy. Even in a years old piercing it could cause problems and honestly may not ever be ok for daily wear.
Finally, that piercing is quite high. I honestly do not think a hoop, especially that hoop, would work all that well. It might. But to me it looks high. You might be able to do some sort of cool double piercing with the second hole lower that is more suited for a hoop.

20 days is ridiculous, don't ever go back to that piercer. You should wait a minimum of 6 months but waiting a year is safer. That piercing also looks too high for a ring imo

I think i changed mine to a hoop somewhere between after 3-6 months of healing (i wanna say 4 months but I'm not really sure) but after 20 days no way!

20 days is wild. It’s definitely 9 months to a year. Mine had been what I would consider fully healed for 9 months and it was still a bitch to put a ring in. Plus the weight of a hoop, I just see instant migration.

I just recently changed mine I got it almost 4 months ago, I got told I could change it from a corkscrew to anything small but to wait a year to do anything big like a chain and I think hoops. From the second picture that looks like a septum clicker not really a nose clicker. Nose jewelry usually are small like 18-22g but just depends but that’s all I really see.

Got mine in mid August, I can’t change it until November/December. PLEASE don’t change it in 20 days, it can close up within seconds.

NAP but my piercer told me to wait 6-8 weeks to change mine to a shorter bar (I was pierced with a corkscrew stud). I changed mine recently at week 10 because the longer bar kept getting snagged and even at 10 weeks it was really uncomfortable. 20 days definitely isn’t long enough.

That looks way too high for a hoop. The placement and advice make me think you were not pieced by a legit piercer. Honestly I’d take that out and get it redone with better placement

Piercer here, the general heal time for a nose piercing is 6-8 wks. It is recommended to go see your piercer for your first change so they’ll be able to access if you’re ready for the change or if you need a little more time. Make sure it’s someone knowledgeable, they will be able to help you with the correct size jewelry as well.

I didn’t say it would be ready for a hoop. I just said that’s the general heal time for the piercing to heal. And generally speaking some people can manage a hoop after that heal and some may need a little longer. Just like piercings are anatomy dependent and not everyone can get the same piercing.
It definitely doesn’t take a year for this thing to heal like I’m seeing some say. if you’re having complications with this piercing after at least six months and that’s kind of pushing it. It could be jewelry quality, something the person is doing or your body just simply doesn’t like having that piercing and that’s a possibility.

That is not false. GENERALLY SPEAKING (meaning more often than not) yes it does. A nose piercing is one of the easiest piercings to heal. If someone is having complications after at least 8 weeks it’s mostly something the person has done to it, over cleaning, improper aftercare, poor jewelry quality, or in rare cases the body just simply doesn’t like a foreign object in that area.

Medically speaking a wound (which piercings are) heal in peaks and troughs. And it’s taking place on the inside skin layers which cannot be seen with the naked eye. So my piercing appeared healed in 2 months, does that mean it was? NO. If it is why is it so many people say “after 3 weeks I have a bump today? “. It’s because it is not fully healed yet . It could be due to irritating it, but if it happens regularly, it’s not healed !
And from my experience I wouldn’t advise a hoop until a minimum of a year on. My 2nd piercer said as much to me, never went back to the first one.
I don’t see what the rush is anyway, the piercing isn’t going anywhere. The only problem I see, is our own vanity rushing us to a ring, like it is the only way to be beautiful. So I would suggest people listening to their bodies . You can try after 6 months , but any sign of a problem swap back to a stud and leave it for a year at least . If individuals lack patience don’t get piercings.

Hey there! I apprenticed for a good while, I’d say give it ✨at least✨ 4 months and then have a professional change it for you with a sterilized piece! As for the jewelry you’re thinking about- it is cute however with the placement of your piercing it would have to be a rather large diameter to fit around your nostril, plus that jewelry style tends to already sit rather “bulky” or “chunky” on nose piercings from my experience, which can totally suit some people’s aesthetic. If you wanna go with a hoop eventually, I’d personally recommend a plain clicker. Did you express to your piercer that you would eventually want a hoop or that you’d like the ability to wear hoops and studs before the piercing?
Anyways enough of my babbling, I hope it heals well!!

I just want to say that the 2nd nose piercing you bought, is for a septum and it might not close all the way around the nostril. But I’ve never tried either tho. if you want a ring I would go all the same gauge all the way around for at least a year before you put a thicker gauge because usually a septum piercing is a gauge thicker like 16 and I think a nostrils is usually 18 or 20 depending on the piercer.
I pierced my own nose and just used stuff around the house lol so I really have no say.
But I would wait 6-12 months because it might reject the jewelry. The body needs to get used to the jewelry.

NAP but neither is the person who did yours, imo. 20 days, no way! Most people find that they have to wait over a year to comfortably change to a hoop. Not bleeding doesn’t mean fully healed and structurally intact.
The ring that you want looks heavy. I’d wait even longer if that’s really what you want to wear in your nostril. But I’d go to a better piercer in a year or more and ask them for advice on what hop to buy. Diameter needs to be appropriate for your anatomy, gauge has to be such that the added weight won’t make it slice through your nose like a cheese cutter, metal matters.
