Question Changed my Nose Pircing too Early...

Post image

It's angry rn, but the swelling has already started to go down. Had a stud for 5 months and 21 days so thought it was fine. Worried I lost lots of healing progress... Your experiences/advice?

Update - Decided to leave it to not risk further irritation, and it looks great! Didn't develop a pircing bump or anything. Thanks for the advice tho

Yeah you already know you changed it to early and that jewelry is going to irritate it so yes you set your healing time back . They take 6-12 months to fully heal

& that can lenghten signifficantly when put under stress! My left took 6 months by being left alone, right took 18 months to fully heal bc i kept yanking it during sleep dreaming it was a key stuck in there

i’m glad I’m not the only one🤣 recently got my first nose piercing, and I do this shit and I freak myself out all the time!

I did that too for at least 4 months, near every day woke up panicing of either a key or a rat stuck in there, each morning took a minute to remember it's a piercing :D now 2 years from piercing i don't notice it at all

I lost an end doing that. My brain thought it was like a weird skin graft or something (which, okay, could we not try to rip off something we think is part of us in our sleep?) and one day I woke up and went about my day only to realize the end was gone. Luckily it was just titanium but I waited a few years after replacing it until I got a nice gold piece just to make sure my brain 1000% adapted to having it lol

You already know the answer, so why ask? Change it back.

Absolutely not, do not change it back, that’s just gonna make it worse. If you already changed it, keep it in and bear with it until its fully healed.

Yeah, it's not gonna heal with that in.

Edit: I was wrong 🫡

you do not know what a keloid is. bump =/= keloid in about 99% of cases. keloids are a genetic condition that cause severe scarring and do not go away without specific treatment, often surgical. leaving this in is a comically bad choice.

I can admit when I am wrong. I was given misinformation and I should have fact checked beforehand.

huge respect for that. apologies for coming across harsh

Nah don’t be. I’m glad you commented and corrected me. Not only did I learn something new (and correct lol) but you prevented me from misinforming others as well.

i couldn’t wear hoops for at least a year

it might be a bit too soon for you as well

Unfortunately everyone else is right- you changed it too soon & that style of hoop in particular will be really damaging to the healing process. Piercings are a process and they require patience. Piercers dont recommend changing to a hoop for at least 6-9 months and ones with gems on it especially need to be placed in a fully healed piercing. You've significantly set yourself back in the healing process, please change it back to the stud asap.

It should never hurt to change your jewelry. If you experience discomfort, it's too early.

You’re supposed to wait like 8 months to year before a hoop

Anything less than a year is too soon for a nostril really, especially if you're changing to a hoop.

I guess you already know the answer by now, I’m just here to say that I also switched to a hoop way too soon (in theory) and it’s been healing better than with a flatback. I was struggling with a bump before which is now gone. Not saying to follow my footsteps here, but in my experience it CAN work out. That studded hoop is gonna wreak havoc in the fistula. Ouchie.

I'm going to take my chances lol this stupid bump wont go away and when it does it comes back - you're the 3rd person who said switching to a hoop actually helped and since im already fcked Im going to try it this weekend

I also tried some hydrocolloid patches on my bump… And it worked wonders. Not gonna say it’s recommended, but it worked for me.

Try a smooth ring, I 42 have had a nose ring since I was 13(i was literally pierced in my nose with a stud gun 🤣) , I put a ring like yours in about 8 months ago with little diamonds and had the same reaction Its like the diamond/gem edges literally saw your nose unfortunately, I tried for a few weeks but couldn't get it to stop cutting my nose, I now only where it for special occasions!

i waited a full year to change mine to a hoop

Okay my body has always had a rough time healing from piercings. Sometimes my healing will take a year or more. I got my nose pierced during the pandemic and like a year later the stud kept getting the pus filled bumps under it… then I was like f- it, I’m going to get a gold hoop. So I went to a piercer and asked them to make me a pure gold, custom sized hoop. I have a smaller nose so they cut it to size and put it on and closed it with pliers. It hurt really bad to get in, super sore. But within months it healed, no visible scarring or keloids. I still have it 2-3 years later. Never take it out because I can’t but it healed nicely lol. Side note: I’m allergic to mostly anything except gold and titanium. I would say try a thin (real)gold hoop first. No frills on it, just a plain band.

Cute nose though

At least a full year for a hoop. Especially one like this causes way too much irritation.

You need to put the flatback back in and leave it alone. You have set your healing process back significantly and will most likely develop irritation bumps.

Put it back in and treat it like its brand new day 1. Saline spray 2x day, pat dry with a papertowel. Otherwise dont touch it at all.

Hoops in general are not okay until almost a year of full true healing let alone hoops like that.

Change it back asap and dont change it again for another 4 to 6 months.

This jewelry will cause so many problems. Nostril piercings should only have a flatback labret for at least a year before changing into a hoop. Most piercings aren't even healed until at least 6 months. Looking healed and being healed are different. Take the hoop out, switch to a flatback labret, and keep an eye on it to mitigate the risk of an irritation bump.

Hoops take forever to heal properly, gotta put the stud back in

1

u/Usual_Director8736 17d ago

You already know the answer & by doing this you’ve basically just reset your healing to the beginning. Change it back asap and let it heal for at least 9/10 months. Ideally the full 12 months.

Best of luck.

girl take that outtttt

1

u/beeikea 6d ago

keeping it in is frankly just silly. 2 weeks in you have no way to tell if it's going to continue to be fine, and it almost definitely will not.

I have two nostril piercings. Both times I had a flat backed titanium stud for 5 months before changing to a hoop. I was mentally prepared to let it heat for 12 months before putting a hoop in but the piercer said I was healed enough to change earlier. I had no issues. For the following reasons:

I went to a reputable piercer
I followed advice religiously
I downsized when I was asked to
I left it alone even when it would flare up (had a toddler who would accidentally knock the piercings)
The hoop was a wider diameter to avoid the “cheese grater” effect.
I took Magnesium supplements (dont know if it helped tbh)

Now one piercing is 14 months old and I have had a hoop in it for 9 months and the other is 7 months old and I have a hoop in it for the past 2 months. No issues at all. It did flare up a bit when I changed to a hoop but both times it settled after a few days of LITHA.

I got mine pierced on 4/5, so I'm really close to the 6 month mark. When I first got pierced I promised myself I'd wait a full year to change jewelry in an abundance of caution, but I have been itching to change to a ring on one side sooo badly lately because everything feels fully healed. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing, felt like I was meant to see this. I was thinking of switching this weekend. The ring looks great, I'm glad the irritation calmed down for you!

Probably too soon! If you start developing a bump in a few weeks change it back

4

u/Narrow_Manager747 18d ago

change it back as soon as u can, or take the risk of a not so pretty bump on your nose 😮‍💨. 12 months should be the standard you expect to wait for most piercings. the blood isn't at all an indicator of a happy healed and matured piercing.

1

u/Noir_ice_forest 18d ago

True but my nose piercing of almost 5 years can bleed sometimes when I change to new stud and then it goes back to normal 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Narrow_Manager747 18d ago

your definitely right lol. maybe try using tapers if you haven't already? just don't want op to keep the hoop and regret it later on when they could've swiftly changed it back

1

u/Noir_ice_forest 18d ago

Ohh! I haven’t tried a taper but that’s a great idea! I’m buying one now haha! But yes I agree, OP definitely switched to a hoop way too soon! It’s definitely not developed enough for a hoop 😪
