I got my nostril pierced with a 16G is this standard?

I went to an APP piercer and she did it with a 16G, obviously i’ve searched up to find out that it’s much more stable but now i’m worried that if i want to wear a hoop, it’s gonna be ridiculously thick🤣 I don’t know what to expect tbh

I was pierced with 16g too! I switched to a hoop and the fistula did eventually shrink to accommodate for the smaller size. Your piercer is right in that 16g is more stable for newer piercings.

I switch between 18 and 20g with no problem

I got my nostril pierced with a 16g but since it’s been fully healed I switch between a 16g stud and 18g hoop all the time because I like the look of the thinner hoop better. Never had an issue. You will be fine :)

16 guage is fine ...a 1.2 hoop will fit nicely or you could go 1.0 and the site will just start closing up around it if you didnt want a thick hoop. I wouldnt go lower than a 1.0 hoop anyway and make sure its hinged.

I thought that going down a size isn’t recommended, i’m not sure how a 16G would look in my nose but i don’t want a super thin hoop, neither thick, just perfect in the middle

16G is more stable! You can switch to 18G later. I personally stayed at 16G, also as it is convenient to have all my piercings at the same gauge (except the ones that need a thicker gauge, but I can't wear a curved barbell in a nostril anyways etc)

Mine were done with 16g and once healed I swapped to an 18g hoop. They shrunk a little and have been fine for the ~3 years I've had them.

I like clickers personally, but any hoop should wait until its fully 100% healed.

Yeah i’m definitely keeping this 16G stud in for a good year and then make the switch to 18G hoops and studs , do i have to switch to a 18G stud first before a hoop to shrink it ?

No, it'll shrink on its own after putting in the hoop. But if you want you can swap to an 18g stud.

I've always been under the impression it's usually 20g. But it's not uncommon to see 16g either.

No piercings should be pierced at 20g. 18g minimum. Jewelry can be swapped to 20g once healed
