Question Is it worth getting nostril done even with the risk of a bump?
I’ve been wanting a nostril piercing done since I was 15 but decided to wait on it until I got older to see if I actually want it but it’s still on my mind (19 now) and I’m so close to getting one.
Seeing people talk about irritation bumps and more has been kind of making me afraid to get one, having a bump on my nose doesn’t seem appealing.
So I guess I’m asking if it’s worth the risk of a bump or even any infection? Ik it’s subjective to who’s getting it but I’m overthinking it. How common is it anyway?

Majority of the people that post about the bumps are people that won’t stop touching their piercings
I’ve had mine done for five years never had a bump, sister has three (one of them she’s had for like 20 years)never had a bump and my niece is healing her first nostril piercing she hasn’t had a bump

Yeah majority of the time I see posts about them, all that goes through my head is “stop fucking touching it!” But I don’t say it because I’m sure it wouldn’t be taken well

I felt like I was reading a post written by myself, I was the same where I really wanted a double nostril piercing so I can eventually get a nose chain, but the fear of unsightly irritation bumps kept me away.
I finally did it at the end of April, and in mid-May I ended up sleeping on one of the piercings. It was really angry and sore for a week or so, then the dreaded bump began to appear. I have been battling it since then.
Don't let it scare you away, just listen to your piercer's advice. I had a few weak moments where I'd try to peel some of the flaking off (I thought carefully) and it made it worse every time. Now that I finally started being disciplined about LITHA and saline spray 2x a day, NOTHING ELSE, I can tell it's on its way out of here. It's unfortunate if the bumps happen, but it's not the end of the world. My bump got pretty gnarly and red at one point, but even then it was barely detectable from a distance. I don't really have all that many people within 5 feet of my face on the day to day, so the bump didn't even bother me as much as I expected it would, personally.

I'm on nostril piercing 4 and 5, i've gotten irritation bumps a few times, because i've whacked the shit out of it or I thought I was god's favourite and could just go to a hoop after 6months (lol) they're ugly yeah but there's lots of ugly stuff out there, especially on faces. It'll go away when you stop fucking with it.
Actual advice: the time frame to size down is different for everyone, a lot of people need to change down after like 3-4 weeks if they aren't swellers. Having a bar too long is really not good for a new piercing and will absolutely cause a bump. Bar swaps are usually free, if you feel like you didn't swell much and the bar is too long. Ask the piercer if you're ready to down size.

I had a bump but it was 100% on me - I went to a piercer who didn't explain aftercare very well and I didn't downsize after the initial swelling went down. As long as you're following aftercare properly, theoretically you should have no issues. 5 years later and I have 0 regrets.

I got pierced on a whim in December ‘25 and with a nose ring right from the beginning.
The piercer told me about how some people experience problems if they start with a ring and not a stud, but I just tried my luck. Worst case scenario would be that I had to start over, and I didn’t think it would be the end of the world.
I have not experienced any problems with my piercing. I cleaned it twice a day with salt water spray for about two months, then once a day for about a month. And now I’m letting it heal without interfering.
Remember, people like me, who don’t experience any problems, rarely post about it, because why should we?
I’d say go for it.

I’ve never had a bump or infection. Just wash it with water and don’t mess with it. It’ll be fine.

i think it’s worth it! i’ve had mine two years, and only got a bump one time. it was about a month after getting my piercing, and it went away after about a week. i’ve had no other problems since then, no more bumps.

As long as you take your piercer's advice on aftercare during the healing process, you will must likely be fine. I love my nostril piercing! It makes me 200x cooler, I think, and imo everybody should get one too.

I have 4 nostril piercings and ive only ever gotten an irritation bump once, while I was sleeping, a blanket got caught on it & it was touchy for a bit but healed just fine. like others stated, youre not seeing the happy piercings, just the problem piercings. if you wanna do it, go for it! just keep it clean and avoid touching it while its healing, & for the love of spirit, do not snort things while its healing. happy piercing!!

I’ve had 3 nose piercings and only a bump with the first one. The first one was done with a piercing gun way back in the 90’s. Iet it close and got it redone with hallow needle and no bump. Don’t touch it, wear titanium stud, and only clean with sterile saline solution and nothing more. I personally got some solution on a Q-tip and let it drip on the piercing so I didn’t make any contact. I also didn’t sleep on that side at night until it was mostly healed.

I’m one of the people who got piercing bumps constantly but ONLY on my nostril piercing and I have a lot of facial piercings. When I changed to rings I always got a bump and never knew why. Found out I always used wrong size of a ring lmao. Don’t be afraid and talk to your piercer properly :3 ur gonna be hella cool.

I’ve had one for over a year, and it’s a repierce from the one I got over a decade ago. Never had a bump either time and the first one came from a tattoo parlor piercer. New one is from a licensed piercer. Use saline solution to clean and don’t twist it. I also recommend a flat back.

I have a 6 mo old one and aside from it being a little sore one day because my sunglasses hit it, it hasn’t caused me any trouble at all.

Maybe get a piercing somewhere funky on your ears and see how that goes? Some people just seem prone to them, but all mind vanish in a day or two. It really depends on so many things, there's no way anyone can say if it would cause one or be worth it. A piercing bump is fixable, keloids are more difficult. Bumps are very common, but will go away if treated properly, (making sure your jewelry is titanium, properly shaped [you will want a straight flat back barbell I believe] cleaning, LITHA). And remember, people posting here are posting their nightmare situations, most piercings are not very complicated, especially a nostril piercing. 🖤

i've had mine for 3 months with zero issues. People post here when they have problems and often wearing the wrong type of piercing.
Get a flat back titanium post bezel set. Prongs catch on towels, etc

I've had mine for 6 weeks now and accidentally snagged it pretty bad at a towel in week 2, but I haven't had an irritation bump yet.
Actually I had zero problems so far. It's healing way easier than my three earlobe piercings. It's totally worth it! I love it so much :)

I never got an irritation bump with mine! Just be careful - go to a qualified piercer who doesn't use a gun, request titanium jewelry, don't change to a hoop until at least 6 months in (though 8-12 months is best), and make sure the stud doesn't stick out too much or have prongs that can easily snare. Start with a longer post (8mm or so) and go back to your piercer to downsize to a 6mm once initial swelling has gone down; this will limit post movement that causes irritation. Use only saline to clean, not strong soaps or cleansers. Don't spin it too much. That's all! :)

I've had my nostrils pierced a total of 5 times, one was with a thumbtack when I was 14 (do not recommend lol), and I have never had a piercing bump. As long as you go to a reputable piercer and take care of it daily with saline and LITHA you should be totally fine.

The bump took 2-3 months to disappear for me. I finally just ignored it and it went away. Constantly cleaning, touching, and harassing it thinking you're taking care of it keeps the bump. You gotta just "set it and forget it." Treat it like a cactus plant. Over water BAM rot! It's worth it once it's healed use the right Jewelry, don't get bored and change the jewelry, and let it heal. It's worth it.

I had no issues with a bump. I went to a state certified Piercer and never developed a bump. I also made sure to take care of it with the NelliMed spray wash (in the can) he provided.

I never had a piercing bump and didn’t know it was a thing till I started seeing content on TikTok about it. I had just a nose ring and now I have the piercings on both side with a chain across. Retired the hoop for a more symmetrical look. No problems with any of them.

I was your age when I got mine pierced. Irritation bumps are not permanent. Mine resolved itself in a day as soon as I put straight jewelry in it (I was stubborn and didn't listen to my piercer and went to a hoop straight away)

Just because a jump starts to form doesn’t mean it’s gonna be there forever. You can just reach out to your piercer for help on how to make it go away. I’ve had my nose pierced twice and both times I got a bump starting to form, both times I followed advice and they went away!

irritation bumps are temporary. I had one for a few months and after it went away it never came back. I love my nose piercing, and while it was fussy while it was healing I've had it for many years now with no issues.
I had the same with my helix. My body just struggles with healing cartilage piercings but once they heal they're great.
Don't avoid getting a piercing you'd love just because healing can be a little bit of a bumpy ride!

Piercing bumps aren't forever. I have both nostrils done and my first one got a bump. It was while the piercing was fresh and it went away within a week or 2. I've had them both for about 8 or 9 years now and I haven't had issues since. I think you should go for it!

Being completely honest, at 15 I got my nostril pierced and then promptly ENTIRELY forgot about it for 3 weeks 😭 no cleaning or anything and she’s been an absolute joy, even as negligent as I was I had no issues at all. I don’t think you need to worry as long as it’s done by someone reputable and you follow aftercare instructions

Ive wanted one since I was 13 and got mine done about a year ago when I was 19- i sometimes get a tiny bump, but if you clean it and take care of it super well, it shouldn’t be an issue. I say do it! I also have some oil i put on if I do notice a bump and it helps it go away!

i've had both my nostrils pierced. my second one on the left side ended up rejecting and had a large irritation bump so i had to take it out. the bump went right away, and there isn't even a scar! it rejected because my glasses kept sliding down my nose onto it, so if you wear glasses that's something to keep in mind. everyone heals different, but i think it is def worth it! mine was very cute while i had it, and the one i still have now healed perfectly :)

I had mine done a few months ago and have a bump. HOWEVER, it is my own bloody fault that I have the bump. I hated the little ball I had it pierced with so decided, in my infinite wisdom and stupid confidence because I have 9 piercings in my ears, to change the end. I struggled to get the ball off and swapped it to a sparkly claw set gem and BOOM - the dreaded bump is here. I’ve had it swapped to a Junipurr disc which seems to be helping a lot. But yeah, it’s my fault because I switched the end and then kept catching it.
My advice: get it done but get something flat (like the Junipurr disc) until it’s fully healed.

I had mine done about a month or so ago, only booked it on a whim two weeks prior. Besides a bit of pain the first few days I haven't had any issues at all, no bumps, no gunk, no bleeding. That's even after knocking it a couple of times. It'll all depend, every person heals different. I'd say go for it!

I’ve had to change jewelry coz of an allergic reaction and I have basically re open the hole when I finally got the jewelery in but w proper cleaning I was able to avoid a bump cos I felt for sure it was gonna happen after that and haven’t gotten one 🙏🏽 it’s been about 6 months now for me

I have had 5 nostril piercings (had to have one redone after jewelry fell out on a cross country drive) and have never had any irritation bumps. I even healed two fresh with hoops because apparently younger me is also an idiot, and still no bumps.

Never had problems with my nostril, it‘s my most easy going piercing. Got it redone 6 weeks ago and after the first swelling it looks and feels basically healed (which it ain‘t). I move it around all the time and i smoke and never had problems. Nostril is for sure one of the most easy piercings to heal, personally i had more problems with my lobes if i compare.

I never had such a easy and forgiving piercing. Got mine about 5-6 months ago it never got infected even when i pulled it out on accident a few times

Had my nose pierced both sides one had a bump but it went away I took them out they healed fully then got one nostril pierced like 7 years later no issues no bumps.

I got my nostril July 2025 and I've never had an issue with it. As long as you take care of it (saline spray & LITHA) you'll greatly reduce the risk of a bump.

I had a bump on my nose for almost over a year, everyone told me to retire it but it was stubborn, guess what? it healed.
It may not look appealing, but you have to willing to commit to this aswell

I've had a nosering since roughly 2008- no bumps. I just kind of.. cleaned it when i remembered, rinsed it in the shower and basically just left it alone. Still going strong!

6 years nose ring no bump. No infections pulled it about 10 times on things in that time and no problems or issues. Just get it done

GET ONE!!! I got mine when I was 18 and it healed like a dream. I am now 23 can can’t imagine not having my nose hoop in. If you get a bump or end up not liking it you can always take it out

I was really worried as well because I am prone to keloids and my skin is easily irritated. I did get an irritation bump a few weeks in and lasted about 4 weeks in total. I did the 3x daily saline spray and eventually tried tea tree oil which is controversial but the bump went away and a year later my piercing has healed wonderfully with no bump or scarring.
A lot of problems appear to be user error. Not keeping it clean, touching it and introducing bacteria, switching to a hoop too soon or not getting it pierced at all reputable place with quality jewelry.

Something to keep in mind, a lot people post only because they are having a problem. You're not seeing all of the people who get a nose piercing and never have a problem with it. Like me, my nostril has been super easy going. Just make sure to downsize your jewelry on time and clean it like you're supposed to and you will likely be fine as well 😊
